Hello everyone, I am hoping for some help and advice about my Reception class, I have been teaching nursery for 2 years and this year I have moved into Reception. There is an established Reception teacher amongst the team and at the moment I am following her lead and plans. I am really struggling with the demands of the routine and the level of work the children are required to do. Today I have had 5 carpet sessions to teach, one session consisted of 2 worksheets and name writing. We have fitted in 2 playtime's (not outside provision just time out in an empty playground and that's not including lunch time). The day is so jam packed that the children do not have any …

we have been told that we can't order anything/go on any courses etc at school due to no money. until april. the reason given is that we have had to employ 2 new teachers due to rising numbers - reception has 37, year 1 33 and year 2 has 35. there have been 20+ children start since july. the head said we don't get the money for the new children who started after census day sept until april. but surely we'll get it in january? after that census? i am trying to get to the bottom of the problem as it is horrendous to think we will have to run a nursery with no paint/paper etc when it runs out. i can't understand it.

'Shut up.'

'Shut up' from a 4 year old to a teacher right in front of their parent... not a good sign. It would have been better i think if mum had been more shocked, considering they have no behavior like that at home... Some pretty challenging behavior from this little man this week and I am pretty worn down. Can't cope with any demands being placed on him and responds to praise with a screwed up angry face and a 'NO'. Some sensory issues with clothing and noise and unaware of others or appropriate responses. He got sent home from playgroup because his coat wouldn't zip up correctly and the melt down that followed was not recoverable...mum says he was fine at playgroup. he is a y…

I am in a reception class in a school setting. I allow the children to free flow in to the garden, attached to classroom. I can see outside and if no adult I only have 6 children at a time. Is it a requirement that I always have an adult in the garden? Can anyone direct me to guidelines on outdoor areas please. Thanks

I have been asked to find a good song or piece of music to play while we tidy up, nothing too frantic as we put something on today and they went mental and rushed about throwing stuff into the cupboard and not exactly tidying up! ( that's the children not the staff! ) so if you know of a good song or piece of motivational music, I would love to hear from you, thanks.

I haven't taken my Reception children into assembly yet. My Year One children go and we carry on having a lovely time to ourselves! We have one every day; whole school singing, house assembly, key stage assembly, class assembly and a Smart assembly (weekly celebration). I did plan to have them going in by now and I think the rest of the school think I probably should, but now that I'm getting into the term, I'm not so sure it's right for them. Singing assembly wouldn't matter as we do loads of that in class. Smart assembly will be nice eventually as they will get their moment of glory as we celebrate their achievements in front of the whole school. House assembly...not so…

Hello I'm not sure if I'm posting this is the correct place but I was wondering if anyone knows of some paint that I can use with the children to decorate an outside wooded screen with so it needs to be both waterproof and non toxic as I want to let them do handprints on it once we have painted a base colour. Any ideas would be much appricated, thanks

i'm in nursery, but our reception teacher is really stressed, and i feel she needs to go to her union. what do you think? she had 31 children, and 2 TA's, but now she's up to 36, and may get more ...... she has been told that they are looking to get a supply teacher in but she has to remain the class teacher and be accountable for the class, and the supply teacher can only have groups, i.e. she can't split the class, which to me would seem the sensible solution. incidentally year 1 is up to 31 and year 2 now have 34, and the head is looking to get a supply teacher to have a split year 1/2. does this seem fair? it's my old class from last year, and i feel for them, …

Hi. I have a child in my reception class who has behavioural issues and soils themselves every day (leaks out on to the carpet!) . Am I okay to explain to the parent that at the moment said child is not coping in reception and would benift from mornings only? The effect it is having on the 28 others is terrible - we are unable to fully run activities or even read a story. My TA is spending no time with the remaining children. I feel that mornings only would be a far better experience for the child.

Hi, Could I ask people for advice on how to make a good impression when looking around a school with a view to possibly applying for a Reception class post. I know it`s important to ask the Head key questions and I always make a point of speaking to the children and getting down to their level. Thanks
