Fs Profile And App
by Guest- 2 replies

Hi at present our school are having a dilema as to what to use to level children in year one if they are not achieving a level 1c. We are currently still using the FS profiles however P-scales have been mentioned. I know P-scales are for children with special needs however we are finding it difficult to marry the FSProfile points to APP to show progression. What do you use in your year one classes when children are not reaching a level 1c? Thanks

Ppa Time
by Guest- 11 replies

Hi there, Just wondered if anyone could help. I am a FT Reception class teacher in a primary school. Every week I receive my appropriate PPA time (half a day) and up to quite recently have always worked at home. The value of this uninterrupted time is an essential lifeline to me - I really don't know what I would do without it. Even with it, I am working every evening, all day Saturday and at least four hours on Sunday. I am becoming more and more frustrated as my PPA time seems to be becoming more regulated by the HT of late. She arranges meetings for me during this time (in school), stipulates what must be done and says when I should stay in school instead …

Outdoor Area
by Guest- 2 replies

Hi Just a quick question, we have been told that should those lovely people from OFSTED decide to visit that we may fail on not having a big enough outdoor area. Yes it is rather small and restricted but we are working towards improving the provision but realistically a larger outdoor area is at least a year down the line. I was just wondering if anyone knows if there is a minimum area for Year R's outside provision? Cheers Liz

Hi I have been asked to help a school that is struggling with planning and delivering the curriculum to a mixed reception, Yr1 and Yr2. I don't have any experience of this, does anyone else? Would you teach them all together for carpet times or have separate FS and KS1 carpet times. Differentiation isn't a problem because we all do that anyway but would you teach them all the same topic? OOOh guidance is needed! I need some idea myself before I can help them. EEEk!

How Much 'writing' In Reception?
by Guest- 1 reply

Please, can anyone tell me how much writing they expect their F2 children to do at a time. We have a book focused topic (Abacus Evolve!!) each week and we do a 'literacy' session with three groups on Mondays and Tuesdays. The children write into books (aghh!) and my colleague expects, even children who have just come up from Nursery this term, to be able to sound out and write complete sentences. This can't be right as most are in my phonics group and only recognise about 5/6 phonemes and I don't feel they are at the stage of blending yet. She even rubs out incorrect letters and letter formation until the children get it right. Shouldn't we just be expecting/encouragi…

Oh My What To Do?
by Guest- 2 replies

Evening everyone I am really in need of some inspiration. I have an interview and they want me to an introduction to a lit lesson and it developing into some writing. What my mental block is that I would never ask a whole F2 class to sit and write at the same time and yet would I keep an F2 class on the carpet for half an hour? NO! So my dilemma is what on earth do I do? I feel a fool calling and asking the school but I am so unclear about what they want. I have no problems with intro but how to develop into writing and involve everyone is doin my head in..... Any help would be great

Hi Wonder if any of you kind people out there can help me? I've been trying to complete new SEF today and thought it would be a good idea to do a parent questionnaire just about EYFS to gather their views etc. We do whole school ones but I want to send one out to just my parents. Has anyone got/used one they wouldn't mind me looking at and perhaps adapting. Many thanks

Risk Assessment In Reception Classes

Hello, Not posted for a long time but have a query. I was on a course recently and a colleague had recently had Ofsted. She had been asked for her risk assessment. Apparently, Foundation Stage/reception classes in schools need a separate risk assessment. So I was wondering if anyone has had a similiar request or has a risk assessment. I have read a thread on this forum about risk assessments but I think they were to do with various different activities and not a 'general' one - bit confused - any advice/help?? Thanks
