Hi, my next topic that I am covering with the children is all about kites, hot air balloons and parachutes (there's only so many paper planes a child can make before a teacher turns it into a topic!!) Anyway I was looking for some ideas of books that I can use to link in my Literacy. Thanks Emily

Help - Prsn One More One Less

Hello! My first post, I hope I am doing it correctly. I just wanted a bit of advice. Our school is currently in collaboration with another school as we are on ASIP. I am being observed by the head and deputy head of my school and head and deputy head of our partner school. They need to see a 'new' lesson that the children have never learned before. I was thinking of doing addition and subtraction. I know that I have taught this before, but I am struggling to think of something else. Do you have any ideas for lessons? We are currently looking at traditional stories, Three Billy Goats Gruff etc. Thank you in advance. Leona x

Hi everyone, I know this is an odd question as the whole point of PDR is that it is not structured and the children follow thier own interests. At the moment I am doing a topic on superheroes to encourage boys in particular to write. I put out activities such as - superhero pictures for children to write on, and superhero with speech bubbles, superhero maths - how much does the superhero cost and can you find a way to pay for him with the coins, coin stampers, superhero comics to read, superhero numbers to order, playdough to make superheroes with, paint, resources to make superhero houses / dens... But inevitably, thier are children who choose to just play with the…

My class has a wide range of ability ranging from those who can recite number bonds to 5 and those chn who can't recognise numbers to 5. I have been doing lots of adding recently so think it is a good idea to stick with this but I just wanted to see if anyone has got any inspirational ideas which will impress......I am only new to the EYFS and so want to do well.......how can i cater for all learning styles and make sure i am reaching all ability levels......my observation is at 9 so i want to do a mental starter and input then of course i need to think …

Hi all, Not sure here best to post...so please move or copy!! I am an EYP awaiting results (eek) but also a Mum....and my son who's nearly 8, has always been a very good reader but striggled to write, especially once cursive introduced! Friday he had his eyes tested....and it turns out he is cross-lateral. That is to say although right handed, his left eye is dominant!! it seems this will be a factor in hindering his reading development. i just wondered if anyone has any experience of this professionally...and any advice, exercises, etc I will of course be liasing with his teacher and school too Many thanks Luciebythesea

The Big Talk

Hi, Having just attended a Big Talk training day I wondered if other reception classes were already doing Big Talk and or Big Write and how well or not it was going in the classroom. It was a very intensive and fast paced training day and I felt there were elements that would work well with my class but other areas, like having a display of WOW words and super sentences up for children to refer to, was expecting a little too much of children who currently haven't even been introduced to all their single letter sounds yet! We were also advised to involve the children with doing a 10 minute Big Wriiting session from January for those who are ready. This really wo…
