Outside Area Help
by Guest- 7 replies

I am trying to organise my outdoors area. At the moment I have a small canopied area which leads out onto the playground. Anything I get out during the morning must be tidied away not only at home time, but also playtime and lunch time. I have printed and laminated area cards - just like I have indoors, but have no idea how to do this outside. Would you just have for example a maths box - and have loads of maths resources that the children can help themselves to and then put back, or would you actually zone off part of the outside area to do this? and if so what would you use to do this (and as cheaply as possible, as I believe I have no money to do this) Also it needs …

Gardening Gloves

May seem like a strange question but has anyone got any good quality SMALL gardening gloves that they use in their setting and if so where did you get them from? We got some to use in our garden from the Morrisons garden vouchers scheme but they are way too big for the tiny hands in my class. I have been given the go ahead to get some from school fund and have found some on the internet, but I don't want to get them without being sure they will fit. Also if you have any thoughts on how to stop cats using the veg garden as a toilet I would be interested to hear any ideas. The mesh and garden canes is not doing the trick!

We have a boy in year 1 who was always a challenge during year R but during year 1 has become more and more challenging and defiant. He is from a tough background with not very good role models and no real consistency in discipline. I feel he is struggling with the more structured way that year 1 is set up. Anyway it has also become apparent that he has got low self esteem and so to try and develop this he is going to spend 15-20 mins in year R with me doing helpful jobs to make him feel important. We have thought of him sharing book with 1 or 2 younger children. I also thought that maybe he could play a game with some children, help them on the computer as he lov…

Resource Ideas Please

We will be getting a grant of £500 to spend purely on early years resources. Hopefully next week but got to be spent in a fortnight!! As an early years team (nursery and reception) we have talked about replacing and upgrading tired and uninspiring general equipment but the main aim of this money is to raise standards (we have low profile results) and our head has said as a result of this money she will want to see a definite improvement in standards. So, any bright shining ideas? Our lowest profile areas are reading, writing, calculating and social and emotional development.

Can anyone direct me to an internet link where i can find guidelines/regulations about staff:child ratios in before school care, not technically a breakfast club as they're not serving breakfast and whether there is a minimum regulation of 2 staff. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, I am currently looking for information about children growing up in Mumbai for a presentation. I am hoping to find out about the education that young children recieve, age they start and finish school, the curriculum, times they are in school etc. Any information along those lines would be really helpful. If anyone knows any facts about the schooling in Mumbai or any useful websites or books i could look at i would be very grateful!, Thanks!

Hi, Was wondering if anyone uses the Ruth Miskin phonics and could give me some advice. I have started a small group of children in my class on this programme - who I feel are ready to start learning phonics - they are very good at all 7 aspects of Phase 1 letters & sounds, are very aware of letters (they know most sounds already!) and are showing an interest in letter sounds & words. Ruth Miskin in used for teaching phonics in my school but only a certain number of people got to go on the training, so I'm trying to grasp the correct way of doing it from passed on information and through reading the handbook. As these children have just turned 4 I want to make s…

I was wondering if anyone could provide me with a weekly timetable for a reception class? At the moment I'm unhappy with how the day flows in my setting. I would very much appreciate seeing examples of what a week looks like in other classes in terms of the coverage of the 6 areas of learning. Thanks!
