Well I don't want to blow my own trumpet but we have had a really successful art activity and I would like to share it. Before christmas the whole school decorates the hall and the theme was stars to dangle My class made stars to go on the windows, using IKEA blinds! I have several spare wooden blind pieces because the blinds were too long at home ...we use them in craft and have made allsorts and parents send them in to me so have a constant supply. I made a problem solving activity Roll of tinfoil, how are we going to cover these pieces of blind? lots of working out ..let them get on with it (cheap tin foil) When a few had ben covered the children made sha…

Hi, Just wondering how people differentiate writing activities in Literacy for Reception chn. For example if you were writing a letter to Santa to thank him for your Christmas presents, how would you differentiate for your higher, middle and lower ability groups? Thanks in advance

Whole School Staff Meetings
by Guest- 5 replies

Hi, I work in a small school- just four teachers. I have been to so many staff meetings where I have to sit and listen to how the other year groups plan and assess for learning and I'm afraid my colleagues are not interested in what we do in reception as they are too busy worrying about their own needs! We also have advisors coming in and again it is not relevant to me- I wish it was. To a certain extent I need to know what happens later on but we have a series of meetings with advisors coming up and I just think of all the work I have to do! Does anyone else have this problem and have they found a solution ie a way to persuade the head time could be better spent? An…

Hi everyone - hope you're all enjoying your snow days. Does playtime (as in children being sent into the playground at set times for 15 minutes) count as adult directed time, child initiated time, or do you discount it altogether, as a separate part of the day as I have done? I'm trying to work out what my balance is and would really appreciate any input. Thanks!

Worries About Behaviour Management

Hi all, I wondered if anyone out there had any advice for me!! On my 2nd year placement from university, I had an awful teaching placement in a year 1 class where I was put on ‘ cause for concern’ by the teacher because according to her, my behaviour management was not up to scratch. !! I felt incredibly unsupported by her throughout the placement and whenever I asked for advice, she would say it was up to me to think of what works for me or give me things to try that worked for her and didn’t seem to for me. I was observed by everyone else, my uni tutor, the head, other teachers etc who couldn't see any problems and said I was doing brilliantly for a 2nd year s…
