Observation - Please Help!

Yesterday I found out my head is going to observe me teaching my year 1 class literacy next Friday (as part of my NQT year). With it being so near Christmas I'm in even more of a panic than usual! We have come to the end of our literacy unit (they will be finishing off their assessed piece of writing on wednesday) and there is no point starting a new one. Every other day next week apart from Friday we will be rehearsing for our nativity play! The only option I can see is a one off literacy lesson, but I have no ideas about how to approach this since I haven't done a 'one off' in literacy for years, possibly ever! I have about 12 children who still work at FSP level an…

We have a child who has been in our reception class since Sept this year. We have an issue that does not seem to be getting any better-we have a weekly PE lesson from a sports coaching group that is ran by 2 men, however the child is terrified of men. She will not join in the session (for the first term a 'just watching is fine' approach was used). Now the class teacher is being firmer with her and insisting she joins in. The result has been that the child has become so distressed that she has vomited the past 2 sessions. Her family are aware that she has a fear of men and as far as we are aware there are no Child protection issues/concerns. I have suggested getting the E…

Just wondering if any of you lovely people can help... Im trying to increase the achievements of boys in my Reception class particularly in writing and creative development. We do write dance, and am fully involved in raising boys achievements generally through research that I am doing for my MA - more specifically I am wondering if anyone does anything really modern related to Dance and not necc related to writing I just want to get them imterested in dancy type things. We have watched x factor, Britains got talent, George Sampson etc and the boys really love it, but I want to move on from just free stle dancing to modern music to something more specific... Someone…

Dear all Have just posted this in the wrong section, I think so am posting again here. Hope you can help. My friend has an interview next week and has "teaching time" for 15 minutes on a topic of her choice with 5 children in YrR or 1. She wants to start with a book and perhaps use the outside area, but for this short time, I am stuck for ideas to give her for something that little bit different that will show the panel "how she interacts with the children". Have looked at interview threads and given her a few ideas from that. Does anyone out there have anything else - the HT did not say what the children had been doing recently, so no starting point really. 15 mi…

We're just starting a chunk of work on pattern, and although I teach this every year, i am curious to know how you introduce the concept - how you define pattern? You know: we are learning about patterns; What do you think patterns are? Think, pair share; Patterns are....? I'm not quite clear in my own head - it's too full of stuff and sleepy! One idea was that a pattern is something that can go on and on and on ad infinitum, but you can recognise a geometric pattern with no repeats at all - it is still a pattern. Another idea is that it is something beautiful that is not a picture.... hmmmm, not sure about that either - what about sculpture etc? I know you will …
