Hi, I have my first reception class in sept and wondered if there were any good websites/books/documents out there that would help me better understand the teaching of letters and sounds in early years (apart from letters and sounds book of course), Thanks Louise

Hi All I need help. I had a colour coded diagram which linked profile points with arrows to show relationships between them. I can't find the copy I printed, where I saved it or where I found it originally. It was very handy. I know the description is not very helpful but if it rings a bell for anyone can you let me know where I can find it. -Thanks

Hi All I manage a Pre School/ Nursery and am having trouble with staff only wanting to do their key child's learning journeys/ journals/ profiles in paid work time. Can anybody help me by letting me know what you do in your setting. Do staff get paid time to do them or are they expected to do them in their own time un paid?? Currently we have some great volunteers which means we are able to get time out to get these done, but this isn't alwasy the case! Some staff seem to think it's their right to get paid for time on these. Any help, comments welcomed! Nimatel I should add that we are a small pre school only recently opened so budgets are tight!

I know they are a bit like gold dust, but does anyone have a spare copy of the EYFS. My daughter is doing a childcare course at college and needs a copy for her placements. I'm willing to pay postage if anyone has one.

Plods And Next Steps

We had a visit from our Early Years Advisor recently to introduce us to a new way of recording children's next steps and progress, it should apparently reduce the amount of paper work we currently create in our learning stories. The format is this: One 20 minute observation of child initiated play each 1/2 term, develop one next step from this observation, and record it on the PLOD in the relevent area of learning. This is the next step that the child should be working towards during the next week, and should be noted in the weekly plan. When this next step is achieved it should be crossed off and a new one implemented and noted on the PLODs appropriate area of learnin…

Hi I'm wondering if i can just get a bit of reassurance and help. I am an NQT in an FS2 setting and am being moderated next week. The focus areas are PD and PSRN. I was just wondering if anyone can help me with what to expect? What do I need to do/prepare etc? A little bit panicky especially as OFSTED are due anytime also! Much help and advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi all Wonder if I could just ask how many managers/playleaders are keyworkers too? and do you work on having the same amount of keychildren as your other staff on top of other responsibilities or do you have less? In my setting before I was manager the playleader/manager did not have keywork children, they were running things everyday and didn't feel they had the time for files on top (that was when they were simply I Can files) When I took over I already had keychildren and wanted to keep these on at least until school, particularly as I was the SENCO at the time and all my children had SEN considerations and would not have adjusted to the change of keywork…

Hi, just wanted to post that I had individual moderation today for Eyfs profile, which i was really worried about. But it was a really enjoyable experience and the moderator has given me some really good tips on how to improve some things that i was struggling with in class - . like fitting in planning and review time as this is something i wanted to tart doing. I was asked to just talk about my children, how did i know they had attained that scale point etc. She took my professional judgement on everything and then flicked through my special books afterwards to look at the range of ways i collect evidence. Really easygoing and only recommendation was to update to…

Hi all! Ok so i am the new EY's coordinator as of tomorrow! We had the big 'O' back in Sept/Oct and the Foundation Stage was under scrutiny due to data. So here are my questions for all of you wise owls out there: on 'average' what should children enter nursery at and leave nursery at - within the months bands. I have this notion they should be leaving FS1 at 40 - 60 months, am i right? On entry i would consider an 'average ' child to be come in with 3's across the board. We were told chn are entering average and leaving on average. All the numbers and statistics shown to me today have baffled me. We have a lady from the borough coming in next week so we can …
