New Child Started
by Guest- 5 replies

Hi Everyone I know I should prob know this but I am an NQT and am being moderated this year and want to get it right. I had a new child start in my class in January and her previous school sent me a print out with all the scale points with highlighter showing the ones she has met yet they have sent no evidence with this. The child has not shown ability to meet all of these scale points and when I put her details into the electronic profile no data had been entered. Now I am unsure. Do I enter the points the previous teacher has told me she can meet backdated or do I start fresh and put the current date when I see her meeting these points?? Thanks in adv…

Rhyme And Alliteration
by Guest- 2 replies

Hi Is anyone else struggling to get evidences for this profile point? Rhyme isn't the problem but for some of my children alliteration is a real struggle. They are good at initial sounds and can group items according to initial sound. We often play games where i make up silly alliterative sentences that include their names which they really enjoy but they never attmpt any themselves and have never said - 'they're the same as my name.' Maybe i'm expecting to much for this point, what evidence have you used to award this point? Thanks in advance.

Tracking Observations
by Guest- 24 replies

Hi I was just wondering how you track the range of observations that you do (checking that all children are covered), the observation outcomes in relation to the profile (as each observation can cover several areas) and how you track the children's achievement towards the scales? We use the Eprofile which is a great way of collecting all of the data. I just think that I am missing something which will enable me to plan and assess more efficiently. How do you know when each child has completed a scale which has so many different parts to it (like CD 7, 8). Last year I just felt a bit unorganised and bogged down with filing and cross referenc ing. This year I fe…

Hi all, As a Reception newbie come September I am enjoying the forum enormously and thought I would quiz you all again! I have just finished transferring all the entry data from preschools into my profiles and making spreadsheets to show their entry points! I have been amazed by the massive range of scores and wondered how yours compare? I have a class of 31 in September and their scores range from 0 - 100, yes 100!! Is this normal?

Linking Profile Scores To Nc Levels!
by Guest- 7 replies

We have been told by our LEA that we have to map our profile scores onto the school's progress tracker. We are told to put 6/7 in as 1c and 8 in as a 1b. I do not agree with this one little bit as a point 8 does not equate to a 1b. i know that it is above average, however to achieve this point, children do not need to be able to do the same as for a 1b. The same goes for a 6/7. Our profile results are very much in line with national average so i know that there must be lots of other schools facing the same problem! Now the pressure is really on year one as some of those children will be expected to leave them as a 2c! Is anyone else in the same boat or is this just our LE…

Hi having just had my inspection, it was pointed out to me that the system we have been enouraged to use from our network might not be the best, at the moment i have a file for each child and they have in that a development tracker which i highlight areas that they have acheived and the rest i plan activites and obs to assess where they may need help, i also use a weekly planner and a sheet with the 6 areas at the top where i make small notes on anything that the child did i would like to remember ie held scissors in left hand not right, does any one use a different system

Initial Assessments Query
by Guest- 10 replies
- 3.5k views
I have just finished initial assessments and have been asked to give Ages and Stages for each child and which points I have awarded for profile. I have a mix of children on 30-50 and 40-60 and have scored all children as having at least point 1 on profile. A teacher at another school has said that I must have some children not scoring on the profile at all - and some children on 22-36 months for development matters. I'm now wondering if I've given points when I shouldn't. I've not really used Ages and stages before so I'd love some advice. Has everyone else got children in the 22-36 month stage - and not scoring at all on the profile? I don't work in a leafy sub…
