Does anyone have or know where to find national EYFSP data for 2008-9? Any busy analsying our data and need to do some comparisons. Have a feeling in years gone past that it wasn't out until October or later. Anyone know?

Very quickly, if children are making pictures with shapes and consistently using the correct names for various shapes, but not describing the shapes with words such as 'pointy' as the guidance exemplifies - no describing, but accurate naming - do you give children this profile point? Just wanted to check!

Hi, Have just got my first post as an NQT in an LEA nursery setting and am in the process of sorting out the non existent admin they have in place! Have just found an old copy of the first steps in the foundation stage but where it has been photocopied so many times over the years the bottom corner is slowly dissapearing. Does anyone have any idea where I can get a new copy of this without having to type it all out again? Thanks all Hollie

Awareness Of Rhyme And Alliteration

We feel that our children are poor on this but I worry we are maybe being too harsh and expecting too much. None of them have ever made a comment spontaneously about things beginning with the initial letter sound of their name. I have given it to children who predict a rhyming word in a couplet when we share rhyming books or to those who are now playing with rhyme and making nonsense or real word rhymes. One said I and my they rhyme ! Am I in step with what you do bearing in mind this is a stepping stone??? Thanks, Catriona

Hi, I'm having a bit of a relapse here! Whats the difference? I always thought you planned from the ELGs and then tried to observe the children 'doing one of the profile points' but I seem to have heard so many conflicting views I now don't know what I'm doing! ELG's = Learning objective thats right isn't it!?!? Agggrrrhhh! thanks x

Help With Tracking
by Guest- 4 replies

Just wondering if anyone can advise me?! Im a NQT and starting a new job in Foundation Unit teaching the Reception children. We are carrying out a type of baseline assessment with the children but Im just wondering about tracking, I have a format for Phonics tracking but what about other areas of learning? Am I supposed to track children under all 6 areas? Also just another cheeky question when do you generally start guided reading? I was thinking Spring term but I may start earlier with books with no words/pictures to get them used to guided reading sessions, I have one morning dedicated to guided reading time! Thanks in advance!

Learning Journeys

Hello Everyone, I hope you are enjoying the first day of your holiday. I was wondering if I could pick your brains about learning journeys. Currently we use an A4 book with white plain paper in where we stick examples of work and photos. We then have a tracking document where we place long and on the spot observations which are linked with the EYFSP for each child. I have also created a photo file for each child which is added to regularly on the PC. These are split into the different terms. I feel I have too much evidence in different places and would like some advice on what else I could use. I would be really grateful if you could give me some advic…

Hi Our school wants to keep track (as for an internal document) of the Development Matters points (previous Stepping Stones + ELG) in a document which would start once the child arrives to Kindergarten 1 until s/he is finishing Kindergarten 3 (= Reception). This internal document would help us in several ways: 1. Practitioners could see how the child is developing throughout their early years and it would be a written communication tool. Surely enough we speak with each other, but it is a good visual aid to have on hand, even more if the previous teacher would not be in the setting anymore. At the same time, the administration team keep track on how the chil…
