Moderation I Survived
by Guest- 4 replies

Hi, Well the moderation was today and after many tense days and sleepless nights etc I can finally say it's ok. The moderators were really kind and supportive and stressed that their role was to be supportive rather than critical. They agreed with the judgements I had made and were amazed at the amount of evidence in terms of observations and photos and then tracking sheets that I had. The deputy head and head were around for most of the time but that was fine. So finally i have been told by the Headteacher that I am doing a good job and that I am a good teacher. After years of criticism this feels incredible and I can finally get on with my job knowing that what I fi…

Could someone help? I work in the Foundation Stage of a Primary School where we have 58 children (36 full time and 22 part time). How do other Primary School's manage their time completing learning journeys for such large numbers? What formats work well? Any help would be welcome. thanks

End Of Fs Levels!

Hi I am sure this has been discussed before but wanted to know your opinions on what our school improvement officier wants us to do at the end of FS. At present i pass on the children's scores using the EYeprofile and meet with the yr one teacher to discuss children's strengths and possible targets for the coming autumn term. The year one teacher and myself have been talking about the possibilty of her continuing using the Eprofile with her class as most of my reception children are not at the end of it when they begin in yr one and then address the levels issue at october half term. However our SIP and head teacher have said that doesnt show the progress in terms of da…

Psrn Scale Point 8
by Guest- 8 replies

Hi Everyone, This is a tricky question... I was wondering what type of things other people have observed children doing do obtain scale point 8 in any aspect of PSRN. As yet, I have to award it to any of my children because I have no clue what I'm looking for! I'm sorry if I sound really silly! I'm sure that some of the children in my class can 'do it' but have no observations or evidence of this. Can anyone help? Also, the way my setting is structured means that we have free-flow between 2 classrooms, with my classroom containing the 'creative' parts - e.g. malleable, junk modelling, drawing (graphics), construction, challenge area and the book corner, and the other c…

I've been told that if a photograph appears in a child's profile (this is for pre-school children), then it must have a date imprint to satisfy Ofsted. I find this quite difficult to believe. Can anyone confirm or deny please?

Learning Stories
by Guest Kristine- 7 replies

I know all you wonderful Early Years teachers out there will understand the value of the 'sticky note' observations, the photos, the learning stories and the next steps that accompany them.... (Obviously, all this has to be manageable in order for it to work) ... and for years I have had all this in a scrap book. but... as we now seem have our feet firmly set in the ground of the IT age, our school is now using digital portfolios. Does anyone else do these? If so, please share with me how you present your early years portfolios? Powerpoint? Photostory? What does everyone else do? What do you scan in? How often? Do you import sound files? How many slides…
