Hi, I seem to be geting into a pickle over this and would love some clarity Here goes.. When should we ne starting the early years profile? Should it be in the reception year or should it be when the child reaches 3? Are we hightlighting the areas od development which the child has achieved ( backed up by observations)? How do others do this? I am really am getting confussed and want to do what is best all round. Are there any examples of the profiles anywhere? Thanks Sunshine

Hi, I am confused. Is the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile for Nurseries to use? Previously we used to mark childrern off on the stepping stones, and then we could see- well SMT could see value added and progression, but because there are no stepping stones how can they see that now. For example if i assess/observe a child to be within the 40-60 months stage at the beginning of Nursery and then I assess/ observe at the end of Nursery and I find they have made progression but are still within the 40-60 month stage, surely my SMT will query whether they have made any progress at all because they are still within the same stage. With the stepping stone …

Hi there everyone. As everyone seems to be at the moment, I'm a bit frazzled about how much evidence to collect for tracking progress in Reception. My head is wanting to ensure that we are doing sufficient for looming Ofsted in a years' time. And that the progress we are tracking is accurate and rigourous. I am using eprofile for the first time this year. I'll run through what I'm already doing, and if people think I should be doing more/collecting more evidence then please hand out that wonderful advice of yours! Formal observations - 1 per child each half term Informal observations - post-it style - constantly!! Group guided reading record - weekly …

Wondered if someone could clarify this point for some colleagues for me - can you give a child scale point 1 and 2 in writing if they will only ever write their name to name their work but will not attempt to write anything in any other activities. Thanks

Expected Progress In Reception
by Guest- 18 replies

Hi My head now expects my performance management to incorporate an expectation that children will progress at least three stepping stones" as she puts it whilst in Reception- I consider this to be a crude and unrealistic measure of my part in the childrne's achievements. Any advice?

Hiya there! I am very new to the forum discussion site but have been looking at the resources and think it's a great space for sharing. I am hoping that some of you out there can help the dilema I am in at the moment with regards to FSp scores of 6 in LSL, Reading and writing being seriously queried by year 1 colleagues and I am not too sure where the accuracy of the query support comes from. OK, here goes - a few questions: * I have been told that 75% of the children leaving FS2/Reception should be at phase 5 letters and sounds to score FSP 6 - does anyone know where that comes from? According to the updated FSP I can only find reference to blending and segmenting …

Hello, I have just started out as an NQT in a reception class. I need to do intial assessment with the children but I am confused by what evidence to collect at this stage - i have done write your name, going to do number recogniton and sound recogniton. Am I on the right tracks? I spent last week playing with the children and this week trying to do assessments, with the observations being very thin! Any ideas for intial assessments and guidance on doing intial obseravtions would be grateful as I am feeling like I am behind with everthing, i dont think I will be starting proper lessons next week! Thank you
