I know that every child is different, but I'm hoping you can give me a general idea of attainment at this time of year. I've read the topic on over scoring and totally understand the concerns (and will take heed of the warnings re evidence) but am also concerned that there will be a tendency to underscore too, which has it's own issues. Luckily I'm confident that I have scored appropriately - and have spent a good amount of time getting my own head around the criteria for each point. I was just wondering what were the average scoring that people were getting at this time of year. This is the first year where we have done the profiles incrementally (don't ask!), s…

Hi all, been away for a while, just started back at work full time to be hit with statistics and figures from our school LEA advisor! This is my 2nd yr in this foundation stage and I am only finding now problems with previous FSP records. The FS teacher prior to me had 'overestimated' the children's ability- currently yr 2. More than 60% were given indicator 9's across the board and all bar 1 were given at least point 8 elg! This class are a poor ability class! Yet when the LEA advisor came in she wafted some graphs comparing my 2005 yr end cohort and this 2004 yr end cohort. She queried the difference between the two results (i only had 4 ind 9's!) - she said that the o…

West Sussex Developmental Records

Are there any other forum members who work in a West Sussex school ? If there are you might be able to help me. We use the west sussex developmental record and not the Foundation Stage Profile booklet, is this compulsary in west sussex or just a matter of choice? Most of our children come up from playgroups with the developmental records and we continue them but we were thinking of looking into using the e-profile. Can we use both or are we duplicating the work load? Is anyone else in the position of their LEA having their own version of a profile?

Hello, We have done general assessments and observations on children when they enter Nursery and Reception. However, we are wondering what other people do in their settings? Does anyone do an assessment like the baseline assessment?

Using Profile To "predict" Nc Levels 1 2

This may have been covered before, but I was chatting to my Y1 colleague and she is having trouble with the Profile scores I sent up to her. We use software called Target Tracker and it's great except that it converts profile points to NC levels and makes predictions for Y1, Y2 etc. and I really have an issue with this. It's being used like an old baseline. The problem is that some of my children are predicted things like 2c in Y1 and they won't achieve that. I keep pushing for a baseline to be set at the start of Y1 against NC levels, which would be far more accurate. Anyone else facing similar issues? It's causing a lot of stress right now! heyjude

I am an Early years coordinator in a First school and at the moment we are working together with KS1 on transitional issues. Our KS1 coordinator doesnt really have much knowledge yet of foundation stage profiles and is finding it difficult to relate them to KS1 assessments especially in Reading. We are working from the idea that an average reception child will score 6 or 7 on the scale document by the end of reception to be working within the ELGS is this right she says ,the NLS expects Reception age chn should know 45 Key words at the end of Reception so really the child shouldnt achieve the point but the level 6 profile score (average child)says a range of famili…
