Outside Play

Hi, This is my first ever question for the forum. I'm a nursery nurse in a state school studying part time. I am writing an assignment on outside play and would like to know practitioners thoughts on outside play in the foundation stage. Should we setup the activities for the children or provide the resources and allow for creativity? I have my thoughts but would be interested in feedback from different settings. Many thanks Denise

I am to introduce the foundation stage profile to our new reception parents and thought it would be best done through an open evening when we are also doing a phonics/ how to read evening. Does anyone have any information as to how to get the foundation stage - sure start video and pack that I have heard of... and would this be of use? How much information do we need to go into? I didn't complete these last year... so am uncertain of the details that parents need to be given at the start... but am aware that this would be easier as a group presentation rather than as individual parents on parents evening. Any ideas are gladly accepted and thatnks in advanc…

Prfiles And Reports

Would a Yr 1 teacher really look at each child's FSP? I think they would only look to see if there were any ELGs not yet acheived by a child and this would be apparent from the final summary sheet that we are going to have to completeand return for Govt data. Perhaps you could photocopy each child's summary sheet (a collation of all their scores in all areas of learning) and the parent/child interview sheet from the front of the FSP and hand that on to the Yr1 teacher. The parents could then have their child's FSP. I'm hoping that is what I can do. Claire

I am on top of everything else - It clearly states it is an admin task but only I appear to have noticed this! Nevertheless I am having to do it all - I am not happy, so depress me a bit more and let me know that you are not all having to do the same, please?

Does anyone out there feel as confused as I do about the profiles?? I was under the impression from my LEA that we were to use the booklets this year, so having made a start on them am not pleased to find that now all we are being asked to do is fill in the data onto dics and use that booklets for the new intake in September. Is it just me or are we recieving mixed messages from advisers etc ? From, connie

Has anyone else been asked to write reports as well as complete the foundation stage profiles? This seems like a lot of extra work. Does anyone have any sites that will give report formats to download or report formats to tie in with the FSP information.

What is your experience in recording children's achievements during the classroom session? Will your methods change as a result of the FSP?

Questionnaire

I am trying to gather information on how people are trying to work as a team in the foundation stage, particularly in relation to adult to child ratios and time for planning and discussing observations with teaching assistants. I think these issues have a big bearing on the workload especially in relation to the Foundation stage profiles. If you would be willing to complete my questionnaire please e-mail me. Thank You Sally Stocker. Reception teacher in a 1 form entry primary school.
