Hi Currently looking at the possibility of having a Reception class and a Reception/Nursery class (at the same time) and looking for examples of how you timetable it, especially if you have am and pm Nursery. Really want to make it work but having a bit of a mental block over it all!! Any help much appreciated!

welfare requirements

Hi Just wondered if you could tell me if it is a requirement that a nursery/preschool that is run by the school needs to follow the welfare requirements in terms of eg space, sharing toilets (children), policies etc. I know staff ratios would be. Thanks

Year 1 in an FSU

Me again, banging on about the same issue! I think I have read stuff that says you can have year 1's in an FSU. Anyone do this? We are a school looking at taking over the ownership of our on site Pre-school. The two facilities are currently in adjoining rooms with a sliding door so can become one unit or stay separate as needed. We are a very small school so i will be the only teacher in the unit but we will have 4 two year olds, 8 pre-schoolers, 12 Reception and about 5 Year 1's. Apart from it being a planning nightmare, does anyone currently do this or have any words of wisdom. I guess the climate is not right to stop taking two year olds at this point is it…

Staffing across an FSU

Hi, What are the rules in an FSU if it's a Reception class and a Pre-school, next door to each other but with a wall and doors between the rooms. can the teacher lead both set ups (with the correct ratio in place) doing all the planning and spending part of the time in each room? Also, any one running a 12 place pre-school that is self-financing (8 3-4yr olds, 4 2 yr olds- 2 staff)? Schools, if you are running an FSU how are you able to afford the cost of the teacher form the grant funding or do you share it 50/50 with the school? Thanks

Hi everyone, Hope those of you who have finished for the summer have enjoyed a few days relaxation and for those of you just finishing... the end is in sight! We have had a discussion this morning about children deferring entry to Reception. Can someone confirm for me the age in which a child is expected to be in Reception if their parents choose to defer. I have always understood it to be the term after they are 5. However, we are now thinking that this may have changed. Many thanks in advance. Mel

Hi all I know that there was a thread started on here about planning in FSU's a while ago, but just thought I'd try again and see if anyone has any examples they want to share. I am starting a new job in September as the Nursery practitioner in a very small FSU in a small village school. There will be me and then the Reception teacher. I would love to know a bit more about how you all plan. Do you do it seperately or together? Any examples would be very gratefully recieved. Thanks!
