Flexible Nursery Hours
by Guest- 1 reply

I have done a search of the forum and read many posts relating to flexible nursery hours. As yet I have no experience of working in a school with a nursery but have been asked to do a presentation on how I would implement the change from from 12.5 hours to 15 hours a week which may be used flexibly by parents/carers. Also how I would approach the task and the questions I would need to ask. It seems too simplistic to say look at the existing provision, question the parents on the provision they would like to see, look at costings and potential staffing issues and then go about managing the change. The whole thing seems riddled with pitfalls so can anyone give me some h…

Hello everyone. I'm very new to EYFS (taught in top end KS2 for 13 years and volunteered to teach nursery class in FSU last September), and need some guidance on improving learning bays. We currently have these areas: Writing, Home Corner, ICT, Maths, Construction, Water, Sand, Malleable, Creative (art and junk), Music, Role PLay and Outdoors. We have our Continuous Provision PLans up in each area, but I have been worried about the amount of learning that goes on here and the fact that we rarely seem to change some areas (e.g. sand, water). We had begun to assign members to staff to a learning bay each week to play at a focused activity in the hope of encouraging children…

Foundation /ks1 Coordinator

Hi I am currently on maternity leave for the second time in 20 months..Don't ask! My role was assistant head and Foundation stage coordinator. Since I have been away it is all change new head etc etc.... Its ok as i'm only going back for 7 weeks... Anyway because fs is where my heart is and feel passionately |(as we all do on here.).and having just been involved with a fantastic team setting up a foundation stage unit..the gossip is that the new head is wanting to have a joint fs/ks1 coordinator. That makes me very sad and again fs is not being recognised as a key satge in its own right...(They wouldn't dream of putting ks1 and ks2 together in our large school!) Any…

Hi we have recently extended our outdoor area although it is just grass. I was wondering if anyone knew of any websites that offer support in developing an outdoor area or if anyone had any great ideas. Is it ok to use old milk crates, tyres and drain pipes etc or is it too big a health and safety risk? We have some bikes and would like to make a track through the grass - would pavement slabs be best?? We also want to make a vegetable patch. Any ideas would be most appreciated x

Involving Parents In Fsu.

Hi. In September I am going to be coordinator in our recently established Foundation unit. One of my first tasks will be to get the parents on board as the present staff haven't really done this and parents, particularly of those moving into F2, are having doubts about the provision. I think the concerns centre around the fact that they are not sure about the progression from F1 to F2 and how the children will progress as they have in the past in a pure Reception class. I am planning on holding a meeting during the next half term and also would like to produce a booklet for parents/ children about the class. I am wondering if anyone has done this kind of meeting before…

Staff Observations

We had an Ofsted a couple of years ago where I was observed teaching the reception children in a foundation unit, and my room and coordinator file looked at. The inspector was an early years specialist. The foundation stage got a good, where the school overall got a satisfactory. This last year I have had to contend with an afternoon club in my room starting, who cannot look after things, and a new untrained T.A who thought I should tell her every little thing to do. I have had conversations with my head who will not listen to my grievances, and does not understand how all this has impacted on my workload. Now I feel she has not liked my challenges and is getting back at …
