Staff/child Ratios In Fsu
by Guest- 6 replies

Can anyone help - I have a colleague who is wondering about her schools foundation stage unit ratios in light of the new EYFS. There are currently 22 nursery children in the am, 18 in the pm and 40 full time reception children. At the moment there are 2 teachers and 3 support staff. We are wondering if this is enough or should there be more teachers?

Foundation Stage Leader

Hi Please can anyone help? I have just been given the role of Foundation Stage Leader and I don't know where to start. I'm only in my second year having just completed my NQT year. I have not had anyone to ask as we haven't had a foundation leader since I started last year (thats a long story!) The head is very supportive but not early years trained. I have been in charge of setting up planning etc, but what policies do I need to put in place and is there anything else I need to be in charge of? On the same note, we are getting a new TA to support the new teacher starting in January and I wondered if I should be present at the interview? Any help w…

by Guest- 7 replies

Hi, I now that this differs from place to place, so was wondering what the children in your FSU wear, and is it the same for full-time and part-time children. Do they wear anything they like, school uniform, a separate unit uniform, and is it the same for part-time children as those of stat school age?

I'm chair of a Pre-school in Oxfordshire which is also part of a Partnership Stage Foundation Unit with the Primary School we are sited on. We have planned a joint building and have been approached by the Head with a view to merging into a Foundation Stage Unit and creating a Nursery or Pre-Reception class. This throws up all sorts of issues ie Staff changing contracts, job description, pay, hours, management structure, loss of the Pre-school, numbers on roll and waitlists There are so many other issues as well, and we have a major time constraint in that the decision yes or no has to be made before the 12th October. What I'm seeking is any help if you could sug…

Hi, First posting - new member! I am a class teacher in charge of a FSU with currently 10 Reception (full time) and 15 nursery (am/pm) with 2 staff (Our numbers change every year and we ususally adapt planning as necessary) We have been running the unit for 3 years and we've never been really happy with our planning and structure of the day. Although our numbers are not big we seem to struggle only having 2 staff, to do everything we need to do. any examples of planning or words of wisdom would gratefully received. vicky

Graduation Ceremonies
by Guest- 17 replies

Hi, I read a great article about a graduation ceremony for young children before leaving their nursery provision. Unfortunately, I cannot find the article and would like to look into this further and decide if it would be appropriate for reception children on leaving the foundation stage. Has anybody got any ideas? Would love some feedback. Thank you! Caroline

I am in the middle of trying to set up a PFSU with the school where we run our pre-school in Oxfordshire. It has just been announced that Oxfordshire county council will decide in July whether or not to take 4 year olds into school full time. They say further work is being done to 'ensure the stability of Partnership Units' but we are very worried. We would not be able to offer wrap around care and we rely on this financially as we are a small group. Ours is not up and running yet and the satff and committee have put so much work into it. I can see it folding before it has taken off. Have any other counties had to deal with this? Rose
