Hi everyone! I am new to this forum, so I am not sure if I have posted in the right place. I have been teaching for a few years now with experience in Yr1, Rec and Nursery. (all separate classes). I am starting my new job with a mixed Nursery (am only) / Reception class, but they have 2 separate rooms for the classes. there is 1 CT, 1 NN (am), 1 TA (full time), 2 TAs part time (am). there are 26 nursery children and 16 reception. I am not quite sure how to plan my carpet sessions, before CT would take Rec first thing, and NN would do a short session in Nursery, then the CT would go into Nursery after snack for a carpet session with Nursery. The head would like more o…

Hi, Am wondering if any one has any ideas. A position has arisen for a EYFS leader without one class responsibility, but will be expected to teach full time across both the reception classes alongside the current reception teachers. There is no on site nursery. Does anyone have any experience of a similar set up and how does this work on a day to day basis in your setting? I envisage it working similar to an FS unit... Any ideas or experiences greatly appreciated

I would like to buy some EYFS DVDs for staff training purposes. Does anyone recommend any? I can see on the Nursery World website they do some. Anyone know anything about them?

Advice please

I have a girl who is 4 in April and who is still putting things in her mouth, this might be dirt, bits off the floor, hair, toys, her fingers. No matter what tack I've tried with her she still does this and is driving me mad. She also has a strange obsession with 'spoons'. Mom and Dad almost encourage the fingers and spoon thing but the other bits my worry is she is going to end up choking. I'm thinking there is some sort of oral stimulation thing and have read of some non-toxic bands that can be used to chew on to distract from the other things. Does anyone have any ideas?

Boys playing killing monster games!

I work in an early years unit (predominantly boys). They want to run around killing monsters. We give a range of construction and try to direct them but they continue to make guns to kill monsters! They relate everything back to killing monsters. The only time they don't play monsters is when an adult is directing them, but there isn't enough staff to play with them all of the time! They also need child initiated time! I also have a couple of children that are fascinated by monsters! Has anyone done a topic on monsters or something similar? Any ideas, PLEASE! Thanks

A child we had originally in nursery when he was 3, is coming back to us, although he is now 6. Developmentally he is has not progressed since we had him. He was very difficult to track as he only came in occasionally and mum offers a very shaky home life. The reason he's coming back is because no-one in the other classes can cope with his wild behaviour. He is not statemented ( I don't know why). He is not allocated a 1:1 which he certainly needs. This starts soon and we are very anxious about what we can do. Any advice about any of this situation would be greatly appreciated.

Hi I'm new to the forum and I am a student teacher. I have an interview next week where I have to teach a 30 minute literacy based lesson using a book as a stimulus. I have never had to teach a whole class before only the introduction and then small groups. I am not sure what is expected. I have had one interview before and it didn't go very well as the lesson was aimed to high. Any ideas as worried now that I will do the same again.

Hi, I have a child in my class that has formed a close friendship with one child. That would be fine, but the child in question likes to play with other children as well. Problems arise when her friend doesn't look at her or talks to someone else , she in floads of tears and thinks she not her friend any more. It's getting abit out of hand as the parents are now getting involved on a daily biases. We try to reassuance both children , that it's good to play with lots of friends, and that just because they haven't talked to you doesn't mean their not your friend. Does any one know of a story where they share friends with other people. I f I can't find one , i am thinking a…

Can I ask if EYFSclassrooms have sand/water in your classroom permanently? This year due to a particular child we have sand everywhere, even on computer keyboards. Having tried everything to prevent problems we are thinking of moving sand out of classroom but still have sand outdoors.
