Variety Of Models For Foundation Stage Units 1 2 3

Hi I'm running my course on 'Developing Foundation Stage Units' at the Institute of Ed (London) again in May and I would love to have more examples of different organisational models of FSUs. If you would be happy to provide a brief description of your setting, I have attached a few prompts to outline the kind of organisational info I am looking for. The info will be provided anonymously to course members as 'examples'. but as people on the course are often keen to visit other settings, if you are up for visitors it would be good to know your location and contact details which I can then pass on, with your agreement. You can send me your responses by private …

Tracking Sheet
by Guest- 20 replies

Evening The rest of the school use tracking sheets which track children's progress for reading, writing, maths and S&L. Does anybody use these. We have been asked to put one together for F2 and Y1 but the only one I have seen starts with 'end of FS profile' in the first column which is pretty useless and meaningless. Any ideas.

Good Evening my head is going to do an observation on the unit (nursery/Recp and Y1). He cannot use the same format as he does with the rest of the school ie looking at targets, LOs etc as the unit works differently. He has asked me to help come up with some ideas for the observation. I know some of the things I want him to look at but am struggling to make it seem 'meaningful'. Any ideas?

Learning Stories

HOLA I went to a confrence today in Huddersfield where a lovely lady from New Zeland did a presentation on learning stories. Does anyone use them as a form of assessment? We are starting a new FSU in September which also has 2 Y1 classes within it, I wondered how we could use them and the day to day management of them? Can anyone help? They seem a great idea but I can't get my head around using them for such a large phase (60 in Recp/60 in Y1 and 58 in nursery)

Y1s In Unit
by Guest- 6 replies

Evening Everyone Well the unit is up and running thats F1/2 and Y1. We all share the same views and know what we want BUT the behaviour of one Y1 class is terrible. We believe the last teacher that taught these children has no or very little early years experience. They cannot 'play' or aid our child initated activities. They fight or run around. HELP!! How do we support these children without putting all the structure back in the day and make sure that the rest of the children are not missing out? My Y1 teachers are NQTs and I am so worried they will drown or feel like they are totally failing when in fact they are great. I am all ears! To add to our troubles we have …

Hi I know there's already been a lot of posts on planning but i'm writing to ask for all of your help. The Head and i are very unhappy with our unit planning and are having a meeting after half term to come up with a new format- again! I was wondering if people would mind sending me their planning- i want as many examples as poss to show him. at mo the planning is very complicated because the head wants so much in. I'm hoping to show him lots of other planning in the hope that ours will be considerably de- complicated (is that a word?) Thanks in advance, Caroline e-mail-carolineglasper@hotmail.com

Hi Im an currently an NQT and I teach in reception. We have a nursery class in a seperate building to our main site and recently the head teacher and nursery teacher (foundation stage head) have proposed integrating nursery and reception in the nursery building this septempber when there will be less nursery children attending. This may be due to a distressing transistion last year when some children were upset about the move for weeks. I have been asked my opinion on this move and if i think it is a good idea. As the nursery building is not big enough (indoors or out) to accommodate all the children when more nursery children begin it would mean reception having to m…
