Hi, I've been a member of FSF for a while but this is my first post asking for help. I've been apointed as FS co ordinator starting in Sept and the nursery & reception classes are combining to form a unit. I've done lots of research and reading up on here and other places but some of the advice re daily routines, planning etc is a bit dated - some of it over 4 yrs ago. Soooo - I wondered if anyone out there would mind sharing some of their current practice in Foundation units please? I've got so many questions and ideas that I don't know where to start!! I'd love to hear how people organise short term planning, medium and long term? Daily routines - in particula…

I’m very new to teaching children in the Reception age range and have just taken over a room with very few resources. I was just looking for some suggestions about what toys/ equipment are considered essential or even just fun for this age range. Thanks!

Hi all, Just joined this morning. I hope that I am doing this right. I am very much finding my feet with outdoor play. I teach P1 and work with a theme a week. Im very much trying to work each theme into outdoor play. The gingerbread man has me a little blocked. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions or ideas that i could work with. I would be really grateful. Thanks

Large Fsunits

Hi, We are possibly going to get the money to build a FSU. We would have 60 F1 and 60 F2 children, although the F2 numbers could rise to 75. I feel that is too large for 1 unit. What do people think? Should we have separate F1 and F2 units with a common play area? Or two combined units? It all feels a bit theoretical at the moment but I think I better start thinking about it. Thanks all you experts.

Hi this is my first time writing on here so I hope I do this right! I have been teaching for 3 years and I am particularly interested in outdoor provision after seeing the benefit to children's development and behaviour. I want to set up a page where people can share and exchange sparkling ideas regarding this area of provision! Does anyone know how I can do this? Happy holidays everyone!

We have a 26 place FS1 and currently have 26 children in our FS2. The rooms are completely separate but both have a door to a shared outdoor area. We have only recently been renamed as a Unit but seem to be struggling with linking the planning and activities. I am currently in FS2 and the FS1 teacher and I have PPA together once every 2 weeks. Does anyone else run like this and if so....how?? I would be grateful for any advice/input at all.

Hi all, Well, we are are at the start of the new term and thinking of what we can improve as always! I'm am starting my 3rd year in a nursery in a FSU (should say we as I jobshare) and we have a new and very lovely headteacher. The previous one was very old fashioned and not really open to new ideas. !! Anyway - in the 'old' way of doing things our oldest children took home reading books from ORT - the ones with no words in to start with. We strongly feel that this is totally un-necessary and have stopped doing it! However, some of our parents who have older ones in school that have been through Nursery are apalled that we are not giving them reading book…
