We have survived week 1 hoorah but without your help I'm not so sure about week 2! Our story is we have 2 reception classes (38 children 2 teachers + 2EYAs) and LEA Nursery (1 teacher + 2 EYAs) in the same learning space-indoor and out for 3 years and it has worked well-reception staff observed, planned etc for the children in reception nursery staff did likewise. However the private pre-school provision closed in the summer so we registered with OFSTED and now we have a 8 to 12 2 year olds accessing a variety of our am, lunchtimes and pm sessions along with our full time Reception children and our nursery children We are in a large space with areas that are trick…

Hi I am new to the forum and this is my first post. I trained on the GTP last year and start my NQT year as an early years teacher in a foundation stage unit in a 'socially and economically disadvantaged area' in September. The team I am working with seem lovely and I am really looking forward to it. We have sorted out the classroom already in to the areas of learning, and there are 2 outdoor areas for the children to use. We have 18 Nursery children, mornings only and 17 Reception children all day, with 2 teachers and 1 full time TA and 1 part time TA. I am just rather concerned about the planning aspect, as I did my training in a mixed year 1/2 class of quite a fo…

We have a new foundation stage opening in September which include 2 teachers, 1 nursery nurse and 1 teaching assistant. There will be 30 reception children and 25 nursery who are only there in the mornings. I would be grateful if anyone could help with the timetabling of a unit such as this. I have only run a reception alone before this and as we may expect OFSTED soon want to be up and runing quickly Thanks

Does anyone know of a package that would manage both planning and assessment? Something that would enable you to highlight the development matters focus for a child and then allow that to feed into a class planner? There seems to be a lot of software based on the profile but not much for planning purposes. Thank you for your help

Organising Fsu

Hi everyone, I posted on here a little while ago to say that we are starting a FSU in September with 1 class of mixed Nursery and Reception chn. Following further discussions it has been decided that the N chn will be split so some attend am and some pm while obviously the R chn will attend all day, making about 21 per session in total. There will be 3 FT adults to staff the unit. I am thinking that the chn will be divided into 6 grps- 3 to work with adults in the am session and 3 in the pm session. We are planning to have 2 groups a day to work with, and are trying to decide the best way to do this- Either having an area of learning a day and all adults working with chn …

How To Include Everyone?
by Guest- 2 replies

We are a partnership foundation stage unit currently operating out of 2 seperate buildings. Because we are a sessional preschool we have children that may just attend 2 mornings, or only afternoons for example. I am struggling with how to include all in things particularly when we have organised them with the school who have timetabling restrictions. For example we have use of the school ICT suite, but only our Tuesday children can do this as this is our slot. And we are doing a joint sports day, but it will be on a wednesday morning which means only our wednesday morning children are planned to take part. I'd love to open it to all, but can't afford the staffing, we…

Fsu For September
by Guest- 4 replies

Well it has been confirmed we WILL be having a FSU in september. There will be 12 YN chn (who will all come in the am) and 12 YR pupils (full time) with 1 CT and 2 NN. I am looking for advice from anyone who has been there done it previously. I am really looking forward to it and think it will give our EYFS department the good shake up that it needs, but have some concerns and reservations. I have no idea how to timetable and organise the day, am worried about how to best present it to parents, and have to choose between using the current YN room or the current YR room- which I am really indecisive about! Any tips or ideas gratefully recieved!
