We have been a Unit for about 4 years now when we were stronly encouraged by the LA to add a Nursery to our school and start up a Unit. There's now the chance of some badly needed building work taking place and one thing that has been suggested is that we seperate Reception and Nursery. I spoke to the LA's head of Early Years to get her perspective and she said it's up to us! Does anyone have any info on this. What's the national perspective and do people still see Units as a good way forward or are they going out of fashion?? Thanks

hi everyone and Happy New year. I was wondering if any one else completes the profile booklets for each child in their reception classroom. For each statement in the profile we have to have a photo and written evidence of when that profile point was completed in these booklets. To me this is not only sooo time consuming. With 15 new children joining us making it now 29 I am expected to be able to complete these every night. My lovely jobshare (joke) has said she has been carrying me since Septembe with these booklets. I had to bite my tongue to tell her there must be an easier way to record their assesment. Please can anyone enlighten me on how they keep their asse…

Hi everyone, can i just ask, have you heard about changes in pay ???? I work in lincolnshire, but have been out with my friend who works in leeds, and she is under the impression that a nursery who works in her nursery (education) is having her wage dropped in 72 days?, so her contract will be term time only. I knew new nurery nurses were going on term time only but didnt think they change contracts and drop wages, and were not talkin by a bit it will be about £4000 each year? Anybody else heard about this??? Thanks in advance Gill x

Hi it's 4-45am and I can't sleep!!!!! As usual mithered about planning and making sure it is right - help!!!! I work in a special school with 14 children with PMLD and am trying to revise my short term planning in line with EYFS. Have changed things once since EYFS arrived, but now feel it needs more tweaking especailly this year as I have children with such complex physiacl and medical needs who are at the very early stages of understanding their world. Want to make sure they are learning, making progress and that I can show that to SLT and also help some new TA's value and respond to the tiny steps. I always come to the fantastic Foundation Stage Forum for help and a…

It currently offers a range of activities such as stay and play, family learning etc but our head wants to provide more links between schoola nd centre. Has anyone had to do this and can kick start me with some ideas please?

We had an Early Years visit this morning, and we are currently operating as F1 in the preschool terrapin, and F2 in the school reception/FS area, with our F2 preschool children (of which there are 10 this term) attending mornings only in transition for them starting on the school roll in January. Our outdoor areas are joined by a gate and this is opened morning and afternoon for an hour each time to allow free flow play between F1 and F2 but they do not go into each others buildings (we assumed due to ratio's/insurance but Early Years seemed to think this wasn't a problem) So I started this september as manager of the preschool and great steps have been taken to thin…
