Last week, i had someone view the nursery and fill out registration forms to place their two children with us, starting from next week. I have now just had an email from them saying they will not be bringing their children to us after all as they have found a place at the local school. The registration forms make it very clear that we need four weeks notice. Would you still claim the funding for this four weeks or let it go? Part of me says let it go but part of me says no! we have spent time on paperwork already and have sent the claim forms in to the council as well as organising our registers and who is going to be key person etc. I'm annoyed as i feel that the school …

Just thought I would mention what I think is probably a scam. I was rung today by a telephone number from Manchester requesting I pay an invoice of £189. as sponsorship for a Drug and Alcohol book being distributed to schools. On further questioning, I am supposed to have agreed to this sponsorship some time ago, having spoken to this person on the telephone. For one I cannot recall any previous telephone call and two, there is no way I would sponsor that type of money. I did ask what type of school she thought I was running, but she made no comment. The call ended rather abruptly as it became apparent to her that I was not going to part with any money! …

Hi, We're a large and busy private nursery that is open 52 weeks of the year (apart from weekends and bank holidays). We have most of our practitioners on a set rota due to their family or other commitments. Therefore we can not accommodate parents swapping their sessions. The only time parents would be able to swap their session is when the nursery is closed e.g. bank holidays etc... At the moment we have a parent who is arguing with us because we couldn't accommodate her to swap the Eid Friday for another day, but we have always specified to parents when they come to look around that we are not able to offer this service (staff who celebrate Eid have booke…

I have a little boy who started in our nursery in September. He is attending pm sessions only. We are gathering evidence and our Senco has also observed him. He spends the entire session hitting, kicking, slamming into the other children as well as steaming through anything the other children are working on. We have provided resources/toys which we know are his favorites but his focus is only about one minute and then he is off again to chase/bother other children. Mum has attended one session with him but this didn't make any difference to the behavior which is relentless. Suggestions would be very welcome. Thank you.

Can I ask how often people do a full Designated Safeguarding Lead course, and what your cycle is after that? How soon do you do a refresher course? How often do your staff do basic training, every 2 years or every 3 and do they do any type of on-going in house up-dates in the meantime.

Hi Can anyone recommend a nappy bag that actually contains smells? We have 3 children in nappies ( aged 3+) and our cleaner is complaining about the smell from the bin. I triple bag and have tried putting them in a bag in a lidded bucket during the day. It is not possible to go out to put them straight in the dustbin as the caretaker suggests! Thanks

Good evening, HELP!!!!! I am new to Nursery and all this toilet training stuff and I am hoping that you will be able to share your knowledge and experience with me. I have a three year old that has just started with us doing five mornings a week. He is in pull ups and although he is dry, he soils every morning. I have read that we shouldn't be constantly asking if they need to go to the toilet as this inhibits developing the feeling of needing to go to the toilet. However, what strategies would you suggest that we can put into place to help and support this child. I am thinking that we should be checking him every so often and occasionally asking if …

Hi All Just need a bit of advice, am a registered childminder in Bedford and also work at a pre-school, One of my parents at the pre-school is eligible for the 30 hours funding and has got her DERN number, she is only claiming for the 18 hours she wants her to do at the pre school and has asked me if I will look after her as her childminder for 1 day a week after school for around 1.5 hours and can she use this DERN for me as well. What I need to know is how do I claim as a childminder for this 1.5 hours per week? As have not got a clue how I would claim personally for it and cannot find any information anywhere that tells me how to. Thanks Loz
