Currently we all wear a tabard and have a fleece with our logo on, we all wear black trousers and black top (well, all but one member of staff!) but we want to create a 'uniform' for all staff. I have been looking at various sites but I know that some of our larger ladies do not want to wear polo shirts, and neither do I, so I'm looking for a supplier of more modern tops, blouses etc, but I'm not really having any luck. Can anyone suggest any suppliers please? Thanks!

Do You Have A Lunch Break?
by Guest- 28 replies

At the mo we, (the staff), get a 15 minute break in the morning....and that's it! we start at 9.30, (well that's when the children get in - I'm generally in by 8.30, the NNEB by 9.00). The childen finish at 3p.m. A recent OFSTED picked up the lack of breaks... I just wonder what breaks you get? I would LOVE a lunch break!

Hello everyone We've recently moved into newly refurbished premises after 6 years in a seriously grotty community centre. We're really thrilled with our new building but have one problem. The pre-school room for 24 3-5 year olds has brick walls (painted) plasterboard ceiling and vinyl covered floor with a few rugs. The noise is incredible! When everyone is inside you feel like you are constantly battling to make yourself heard. This is only from the usual noise of 24 children and 4 adults. I know that curtains and carpets would make a difference but the room is lovely and bright and I don't want to hang curtains at our big windows. Does anyone have any solutions? …

Hi, Just wondering if many of you are members of the PLA? Also, do you know if you have to be a member to be able to use their products, such as accident records and registers? Thanks

A Bit Of Advice
by Guest- 4 replies

Not sure I have posted in the right area, I am after some advice. I currently work in a full day care setting, part-time/term time only and I am really happy, but I need to increase my hours as I am not earning enough to cover all the bills. I spoke to the owner and asked her if it would be possible to move to another of the settings she owns (which is closer to my house) as more hours are not available at my current setting, she was really keen and insinuated that it would be possible and she would let me know. This was 3 weeks ago today, my manager has also contacted the owner to ask if she had made a decision, but she said that she had not had yet managed to speak t…

I am looking at purchasing a few books for my own personal reading to help me in my role as Playgroup Leader. So far I have looked at these: Child Initiated Learning by Ross Bagley Assessment for learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage by Jonathan Glazzard Early Years Observation and Planning in practice. Does anyone have these, would they recommend them as being practical for use in my Playgroup as a Leader or is there any additional/alternative books you would recommend?

Dog Play
by Guest terrydoo73- 17 replies

Over the past couple of days one of our children's has developed this dog play. Basically she goes down to the home corner and pretends to be a dog crawling and lying about on the floor. She encourages other children to join her and before we know it have about 4 children doing the same with another couple of children trying to either chase after the dog or feed them! It is becoming a bit of an issue from the point of safety as we are waiting for an accident with feet and hands on the floor and others trampling over them if you understand what I mean! Question is do we extend this play and how? Or do we put a stop to it once and for all. It seems to be that 6 …
