Summer Fair

Our local Community is holding a Fun Day on Saturday fortnight and I was thinking of asking our Committee if we could organise a little fundraiser at it. We have a large gazebo so even if it rained we would provide shelter or shade. I want to provide an activity which will bring the children to the area and give them something to do for say a few minutes but also when they are there try and get something off their parents cash wise if you understand what I mean. What could I organise on both scores that would be easy and hopefully generate some cash for the Playgroup? It would be a good opportunity to publicise the work of the Playgroup in the community which only ope…

This might seem a strange request but has anyone got recommendations for good books to read and help me as a Playgroup Leader communicate better with children I look after? I find myself in some sticky situations and don't know how to get out of them exactly ... Like today one little boy got up out of his seat at snack time having only taken 2 bites of the piece of toast and when I asked was he finished he said "am full up". I then tried ineffectively to get him to take his table mat and cup to the trolley as we do for tidy up and look after ourselves. I get frustrated because I am saying the same thing over and over and it just doesn't seem to register with childr…

This week we have had a 'bring your daddy (and mummy, grandparents, aunties, uncles.....) to pre-school week'. We did it last year but this year we have been bursting at the seams with around 8 to 12 families coming in each day with today bringing 14! Not at all bad when we have 90 families attending pre-school. It has been such a success and we have all had a wonderful week. The dad's that came threw themselves into the junk modelling, I'm not sure who had more fun, the children or the dad's! Lots of mums and grandparents too and today an uncle. Fabulous!

I am having real problems with one of my families. To cut a long story short - we have a 3 yr old who displays some really undesirable behaviour, severe swearing , throwing /kicking resources, shouting , etc etc. I've called in my early yaers advisor and we've drawn up a BM plan. BUT the problem I'm havig is mum. She knew I was meeting with advisor and i arranged to speak afterwards - she didn't wait 2 mins to speak to me. I spoke to her as I caught her in the car park saying briefly what we'd come up with for her son to help him ephsising we'd had a 2 hour meeting to discuss it - she says all the right things (giving him attention, bed times etc). Asked if we can a…

Hoping someone out there can help me. We have had to send home 3 children today with diarrhoea and already have a staff member and another child off sick with the same. I have been searching everywhere to try and find out at which point an outbreak becomes notifiable, anyone have any ideas please?

Hi all, I feel like I start every message like this but... Sorry if it's in the wrong area - I suck at choosing the right one! Also, sorry if this has been covered thousands of times... I kinda wanted a personalised answer and got bored surfing through the pages Anyway... I think that after many many years of searching, I have discovered an ideal situation for me - for those that don't know, which is probably everyone (!) I have never actually known what I want to do with my degree and EYP status.. I don't think working in a maintained nursery is for me (maybe the inner rebel, lol, I dunno!) and so I wondered about teaching assistant positions but don't think I…

Can any one help me?! I'm new to the forum and in search of some advice. We are currently evaluating our indoor environments using the Communication Friendly Spaces approach - Elizabeth Jarman. Does any one have any suggestions where else I could look for further information? children's responses to colour for example? Or the use of natural light in the environment and the effects these have on children's learning? Thanks

I have one child leaving us to move to school and am looking for a good poem as well as a couple of children moving on from our playgroup to another playgroup. We are doing a laminated mat with pictures of their time with us and want to add a poem at one side just as a little reminder of our time with us. Anyone got any good suggestions?
