Hi we have a mindee that comes to us on a flexible basis. She is 14 month old but is often in clothes that are aged 3 months and 6 months. Sometimes with the buttons undone so it "fits" or the poppers only 1 of them done up. ie vest. I'm concerned as she should be wearing appropriate clothes but I don't know if there is a finace issue here and they can't afford new/second hand clothes. I don't know how to talk about it to the mum. She looks at us as we are just babysitters as it is. We are there to look after her and that's it. Tried to explain the EYFS to her. Advice to how we can handle this. Thanks

I've been employed on a temporary contract for 6 months as a Children's Centre teacher, however a reduced budget has put my role in the firing line and I am being asked to work as an EYP. Is anyone else in the same position? I've been asked to see if I can find a job description for an EYP employed in a CC. Can anyone help or offer advice?

Hi everyone, Not sure if you have seen this article in the TES supplement, for those of you that haven't, hopefully this is the link http://www.tes.co.uk/article.aspx?storycode=6073405 not sure if I have done it right, hopefully if you copy and past it into your url, it will work. Very interesting to read, if it happens of course, it won't take effect until 2012, and personally I am pleased that it looks like the EYFS is here to stay considering all the work we have all put in!!! Hope you enjoy reading it. Zo x

Hi there, can anyone help me out? I am having a mental block...could you point out a few of the positives to having a construction area within a setting? and how Problem Solving as a theme can engage children as a group in the construction area? yours, most gratefully,

Hi all, First of all, not sure if this post is in the right area! As the new EYP in my setting I am being asked to evaluate every area of provision in the toddler room and then suggest and implement changes. I wondered if anyone had any tips or advice for me regarding this task? A proforma or template would be great if anyone has anything like this! Thanks, Rebecca

Children's Pencil Sharpeners

Can anyone recommend a pencil sharpener, suitable for thick and thin pencils, that pre-school children can easily use ? At the setting I'm currently working at they only have an adult one, and as soon as I start to sharpen the pencils the children want a turn and try so hard to use the thing (I even find this particular one hard work!) I would like to get one that they can operate. My son says he recalls seeing one that is transparent and that also collects the 'bits' ?

http://www.havenfunfitness.com/ Just wanted to let everyone know this is worth registering with . It may be a little late to do this for this time as you have to get parents support by end of april but i'm sure it starts again after april (worth investigating) Its simple to do, you just register your preschool or nursery then parents register support when you get 70% support you get your free sports equipment if you reach 100% support you can choose extra free equipment. we have limited space so i did worry about storage, but it is small equipment, we got small balls-some sqidgy, a small parachute, dance ribbons + other throwing and catching gloves (the ones with ve…

Hello there can anyone point me in the right direction to find some images of a great looking mark making area? I am trying to inspire some colleagues at a training session and although I have looked on google I can't seem to find any! I just thought it would be good to have some images to share of how a good mark making area can be laid out.

Hi all, I am fortunate enough not to have had to experience any of the children I care for dealing with death or serious illness... but for my Foundation Degree, I have to explore this, find resources and compile a book list (and read them). Does anyone have any suggestions for good books for the under 5's, or for me as a practitioner to support me. We have Badger's parting gifts and Goodbye Mog, which are good, but any others you would recommend? Also, if anyone has any other advice or experiences they would be willing to share (by PM is preferred), then I would really appreciate exploring this area with you. I realise that it will not be much g…
