One of our mums has, very sadly, lost her much wanted baby, just two weeks before it was due to be born. I have sent a message to say how sorry I am to hear the news and offering to have her other children for any extra sessions she might need, but what else can I do to help her and her family through this? I do have some experience, as my sister had a stillborn baby at full term, but it's a little easier i think, when it's your own family? I will expect to keep things normal for the child who comes to us and her sister, who attends sometimes after school, but what to say to them if they become upset, or ask anything?

Ok, we are about to receive our insurance settlement for the burst pipes at our setting, and will have the opportunity to replace many books that were lost to water damage. Whilst we were looking at our list , we realised that some of our staff resources are rather ancient, so wish to update. So, if you had, say, up to £100 to spend, which books would you buy for a staff resource........and why?

Am finally getting around to notifying Commissioner of Information and am having a lot of trouble customising the 'Childminder's template'. If anyone has done theirs and would be willing to share how they customised regarding making observations and keeping developmental information in digital format, please do. Also, should I delete the subjects that don't apply to my operation, or leave them in just in case I do need them at some time in the future. Many thanks organised and confident people, Honey

We have recently had an increase in 2-3 year olds as we are participating in the 2 year old pilot scheme so I was wondering what are you're top resources for this age range?

Do any of you take your photos off site to develop? Our playleader seems to recall being told we cant take the memory card to Boots or wherever due to safeguarding issues. The pogo printer is great but is costing us a fortune and I was wondering if outside would be cheaper as well as quicker when I forget to order more pogo papers!

Ok, supposing you'd just been told that you were going to be given £100 to create a communication friendly space in your setting, what would you chose?

Does anyone have any top tips to get a busy nursery class (3 - 4 year olds) quiet and relaxed - don't get me wrong I am not saying I want it silent - but it just seems to be bedlam at the moment and is not encouraging any quality communication between adults and children or children and children - you have to shout to speak to the person next to you and I don't like shouting

I wonder if any of you clever people can help me! please! I'm looking for some kitchen scales to use with the children.... They are the balance type, and you put 2 eggs in one side, and balance out the other ingredients against the weight of the eggs. Has anyone else heard of this? Tried to google but no luck. Thank you!
