Hurrah!

We have finally moved!!! Four exhausting days of moving stuff, setting up and wrestling with Ofsted finally over and we are settled into our WONDERFUL new room in the local school. On Tuesday we moved everything with the aid of most of our own children (knew there was a reason I had so many!) On Wednesday we were drowning in stuff and I was having nightmares about where we were going to put it all. Teachers kept going past and laughing at us. (Not nastily, they have all been really lovely to us). On Thursday we made it all look lovely. On Friday we welcomed masses of people in to have a look and said how happy we were so often that we lost our voices. Mind you it to…

Pay Scales
by Guest- 1 reply

Hi I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction. I have just got a new job and it is on a different pay scale to what I'm used to so have no idea how much I will be paid. It is scp 22-25 and I need to know where I am on that scale. What qualifications/experience do you need for scp 25? Is it that simple or will it be dependent on how much budget there is and qualifications don't come into it?

Hi I work in a large nursery attached to an infant school. We have 52 children in the morning and 39 children in the afternoon. We started doing 6 learning journeys for every child and found it very difficult due to the numbers involved. The head has said not to do them but this makes me very uneasy as I know that Ofsted has failed a couple of nursery who have adopted this approach. Can anyone give me any advice etc in regards to this or how many we should do....how best to do them etc cheers

Being Alone With A Child - In The Car
by Guest jenpercy- 5 replies

Have just been told that I should not pick up one child in my car to take back to after-school club, but should inform the parent that s/he needs to make her own arrangements to get the child to us. so, if i find myself at school and one of 2 children has gone home sick and no one has told us - am I supposed to a) ring parent - tell her to make her own arrangements ie a taxi which won't be available for another half an hour . If I wait for the taxi this would mean that I will need to get a taxi back to collect my car at the end of the day - and the setting will be one member of staff down until I get back and therefore ilegal. If I don't wait for the taxi - th…

Hi Everyone I thought I would write to you today about something a little different. I used to be a nursery manager and now I am training as a childminder. While I am training I thought I would put my spare time to use and I have started to build a blog which will act as a activitiy bank for child care professionals and parents. Here it is: http://www.monkeyingaround1.blogspot.com/ At the moment I am trying to build up the amount of activities which are rather low, This is where I thought you could all help. I would like to do a friday guest post where child care professionals can share one of their favourite activities, how to do the activity and some photo's. The p…

We've set up a nappy changing record to demonstrate the children's nappies are being regulary on the advice of our development worker who is helping us make sure we're ready for Ofsted as we're in a new building so know they'll being coming to scrutinse us at some point... We're open 8.45 to 11.45 with some staying for lunch, then 12.30 till 3.30. Some children do am sessions, some pm sessions, some full days... Previously, we changed dirty nappies as soon as we could, but didn't change wet nappies unless the child asked, looked uncomfortable with very full nappy, leaked... So now we've decided to check all children in nappies at least once a session & record if n…

Hi I am currently writing an assignment about parental involvement, linked to the role of the early years practitioner and Every Child Matters. Does anybody have any information that would be suitable to make reference to about home- nursery diaries for under 2’s? I am focusing on diaries including sleep time, bottles, nappies etc. Thanks Hannah

Hi Folks we have a small area in our nursery that we want to turn into a music area. We are going to put a few instruments in at a time (otherwise) there will be a great deal of clanging and banging at the same time. We also want to introduce the instruments so that children begin to learn how to play and use them appropriately. We will put in a cd player and microphones but have you any other ideas of making this area work and the type of resources that you use. Hoping for inspiration cheers Apple
