Hi all, Just a quickie!!! Could I ask how (or if) you celebrate childrens birthdays? We currently have a plastic cake which we put the asppropriate amount of candles on and sing happy birthday to the child in question and they blow out their candles, they wear a happy birthday hat with candles on the top, we give them a card which is signed from the staff and their friends at pre-school and a fancy sticker. We have asked that parents do not bring in sweets on their childrens birthdays but that they could bring fruit for the children to share at snack time. We also have a never ending list of parents wanting lists made out of their friends names that they can…

Preschool Biker Film

Hi all We have recently been successful in getting a grant approved and our now the proud owners of some balance bikes and photo / video cameras. What I would like is for the children to make a short film using the new cameras and bikes. I have two aims for the film, the kids having fun and the granting body getting to see their money in action. As a parent and not a practitioner, I'm happy with how to do this technically (i.e. story telling, post production, etc), but not with the law / best practise around videoing children and releasing the video to parents & external bodies. I would appreciate any comments, suggestions, links to resources, etc. …

I am looking for good practices relating to making home corners exciting and relevant to children under three years - examples of items to add, size of the area. I have a list of the normal things but I want to add to it until I get a really unique list!

Hi This is my second year as the chair of our charity preschool. Our constitution is basically the PLA one, so our aims include "encouraging parents to understand and provide for the needs of their children". Last year I was focused on keeping the preschool operational (we were a completely new committee). This year, I would like to try to increase parental involvement and tackle the "encouraging parents to understand and provide for the needs of their children" part. I am initially looking at running a few of the PLA's Family Learning workshops. I am also looking into some of the various parenting courses. I would love to hear if any of you have tried the…

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help - I recently stumbled across a website where you could press any lower case letter and amazine fireworks would explode across the screen! Can't remember how I found it, where I might have read about it (could have been here!) and I CAN'T FIND IT AGAIN! If this rings any bells with anyone, please please please can you let me know? Thank you!

I have a house full of football-mad boys four afternoons a week (aged four to nine). I take them to play in the (unregistered but safe and risk assessed) garden during the Summer but it is very wet now and some parents fret about mud and wet clothes (and the lawn needs time to recuperate). I have said no more football on the grass! Even though there is ample (registered) decked space for other outdoor games, a rebellion is only just being suppressed. We live in a quiet cul-de-sac of eight houses and I take my own boys (five and seven) out to play football in the street as have all the other children who have ever lived in the street. I put the bins out near the t…

Behaviour

How do you deal with a child who constantly pushes? They sometime push while looking the other way, will push a child out of the way, or run up to a child and literally push them over or into something. The behaviour was a lot worse last term and negligible in September but now seems to be escalating again. Thanks Rachel
