That Time Of Year!

Hi all, I am in desperate need of some help. It is that time of the year when lots of our children are ready for school and we are trying to juggle their needs with the needs of the newbies and as you know, they are vastly different!!! We are a pack away setting with one room and a small patio area and at the moment all the older children want to do is play hide and seek. This involves running around inside and out, knocking over littlies and treading on anything and everything in their path. We have had endless discussions about respecting others and their property, running outside and walking inside etc. but to no avail. We cannot think of any way/activit…

Hi there, This is my first post and I'm hoping you can help me! I have an interview and lesson observation next week for a nursery teacher's position and am thinking of using teddy bears as a 'theme'. There will be 2 TA's to support a class of 30 for a half hour lesson. I feel I need to plan 3 activities basically and use the outdoor environment even if weather is a bit dodgy. Do all the children need to be planned for and therefore have an adult overseeing them? Or do I allow for a group of children using the continual provision? Not all areas of the inside classroom can be viewed at once, how should I plan for this, bearing in mind I'm being observed? Also, …

Leavers Party
by Guest- 2 replies

Hi I'm just after some advise! We are busy planning a party for all our school leavers - we have 43 moving to school and we also invite all the children who are in preschool currently who do not go to school until next sept, all together this is 65 children. We have booked a children's disco man to do a hour of disco and it is fancy dress, so we plan to give some prizes for best dressed. Then once disco ends we plan to give our certificates to the school leavers and take photos and then go and have a party tea. All parents have been invited. Do you think this sounds ok? Any ideas what i could add? Thank you in advance!

Information Session At Local Library
by Guest- 9 replies

Hi me again As part of the drive to get more children signed up and establish ourselves within the local community, I have organised for us to set up an information stand at our local library next Friday morning (when the bookstart rhymetime sessions are held). So I plan to go along and set up a table with information leaflets, a laptop with a slideshow of pictures of nursery pictures and a large whiteboard with photos of the setting, does anyone have any inspiration or words of wisdom for me?

I am updating my knowledge about early years practice by doing as much reading as poss. before my EYPS in Sept. I'm hoping to get some p/t work in a creche or playgroup and would really like to read something about behaviour mangaement strategies. My early years experience is mostly from working as a childminder which is a totally different way of doing things, working with 3 children with whom I have strong relationships instead of a larger group. Has anyone read anything useful that they could recommend? Ideally it would be a mixture of pychology and practical strategies

Oh my, have just been looking at our numbers for september, we have 24 girls booked in and 50!!! boys. We have been boy heavy this year but not as much as this. That's 74 children booked in, can't believe it as this year we have been incredibly busy and we have 78 children. with 29 going to school. I feel sorry for my daughter, in her age group she is 1 of 9 girls, compared to 21 boys! These boys will have to work hard for girlfriends when they are older, lol! Already our Monday morning sessions are nearly full, we can have 40! We are never that busy in September. Wish some could move to a Tuesday day as have about 23 booked in. Unfortunately in our town all the g…

Eibe - Water Pump
by Guest- 3 replies

Hi Am thinking of buying the eibe water pump. It`s like an old fashoned water pump. Thought it would be good for outside waterplay, hoping the children can pump water when they want it and it avoids the issue of leaving the tap running / accessing too much water and running up bills. Has anyone one of these and how good do you find it? It`s expensive and I want to make sure it will be worth it. Was also concerned about ease of use - how easy / can the children work it O.K? Sally
