Here's one for you! I usually offer placements to one or two L3 childcare students a year from our local college. This year they have approached me and asked if I would take a student who uses an alert dog for diabetes. Have any of you lovely people had experience of this? It is something I would love to do - what better way to illustrate inclusive practice and help children to understand the wide range of needs and help that people have... But I just wondered if there was anything extra I will need to put in place (thinking Risk Assessments, parent permission possibly) Thanks!

Hi I have volunteered to look at how we do our Nursery Admissions and admin for it. Our school office holds the waiting list but we need to improve our communication plans. The last couple of years our waiting list has looked OK, but when we've contacted parents of children on the list a significant number have moved away or gone elsewhere. Obviously this makes planning ahead very difficult. It doesn't seem an admin priority but the bottom line is our viability depends on numbers! I need to come up with a plan of when we will contact people and how we will keep in touch. At the moment we're looking towards September admission, so it would be really helpful to know ho…

I would like to put some plants into the room when I have completed our new look. Are there any house plants that are not allowed?

We have just been emailed this from our council, think it's useful and clarifies some of the changes/wording in the new EYFS. Early_years_inspection_update_March_2017.pdf

As we move towards a different way of setting out the resources in our setting I am interested to know what you all use as storage boxes/ baskets. I have completely fallen in love with a photo I saw of a setting. It was all very calm looking, using the natural baskets rather that the brightly coloured plastic that I am currently working with, but it must have cost a fortune. Has anyone any ideas of what to use that will look nice and natural, be tough to withstand children but not cost the earth? Any help greatly appreciated.

After Easter I am intending to implement a new OAP system which revolves around the Anna Ephgrave style "in the moment" and workshop style environment. I have done plenty of reading to support my decision for doing this and intend to hold some staff training on it. Our environment at the moment is set up by us. Children can access their choice in certain resources and can always ask for anything else they want. So obviously this is going to be a big change for children and staff. I have ordered open access shelving and intend to use the Easter break to get this set up. In part anyway. I guess I would just love any advice or photo's of what you offer and how you pres…

Wise FSF forum people I need your advice. I have a three year old boy, going to school this year. I am really concerned about his negative approach to things. All I hear from him is I can't do it, regardless of what it is. Yesterday I had a group of children make a pirate ship in the role play, so I provided some blank treasure maps for them to draw on, the others excitedly began to mark make but he just said "I can't do it". I stood by him and drew on mine, narrating as I went, explaining that he can do it any way he wants. He also watched the others, which ranged from scribbles to recognisable drawings, but then screwed his up and walked away. It's even when playi…

We have one confirmed case in our setting. Do I need to report this or will the GP do it?

Hi there, Is anyone finding it difficult in finding staff for day care nurseries? I have tried recruitment agencies which were successful the first time I used them but not so good the second time. I've put up my own advert and even directly looked through cv's and contacted them but no luck. Where does everyone find their staff? help needed
