Out of all the hurdles so far in setting up my own provision.. this one has got me. The pre-school side I have experience in.. but as for the extended provision to allow for a breakfast and afterschool for siblings, or school children too... where do I start with vehicles? I am so confused now.. opened a whole new can of worms here! Do I hire a van/buy one/can I use my car if there aren't many/do I need a different licence.. oh dear... What do you after schoolers do? x

Teaching In A Private Nursery

I have been teaching a Reception class in a state school for 7 years and left at Christmas. I now have a job teaching in a 3-4 year olds room in a private day nursery. As you can imagine this has given me lots to think about. If anyone can help with how different this will be I would be very grateful - obviously the whole 'day care' side is going to be a learning curve! We have some children who are full time and others who just do mornings or afternoons. I would be interested in looking at some planning, both medium and short term, if anyone would like to share. Also how people run a day - do you have any whole group/class carpet sessions? Thanks in advance …

I run a pack away preschool in a church hall and Im exhausted by gripes from the church if ever we leave the nappy changing mat out in the disabled toilet (Im not talking messy I mean tucked up a corner out the way). Ive asked the church if we can pay for a proper nappy changing unit to be installed but they said no Under DDA are community buildings and churches supposed to provide a nappy changing area? Plenary In Nursery

Have had an NQT lesson observation in Nursery and we are discussing plenaries. Is it actually EY practice to have a plenary and how is it done? I have been advised to do photos of the children learning in the various areas as a slide show on the whiteboard, but as there is only one whiteboard it is really too many children to sit around and have meaningful discussion. we normally operate in 3 smaller groups. Any ideas will be very welcome. Cheers Lou xxxxxxxxxx

Has anyone ever taken Nursery children to a shoe shop? I am just about to phone and beg our local shop to let us go and visit and wondered if anyone has ever done this before? What did you do there? Was it chaos? Or how did you ensure it was NOT chaos Cheers xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi I am currently a childminder but have the opportunity of joing a playgroup and I wondered how I would be paid. It's term time only so I have assumed you get paid during the term and during hols you don't get paid - is this right? It's a job I really want but dh is worried about paying the bills if i'm not being paid for 13 weeks a year and i just wondered if i have assumed right or if the salary is averaged out throughout the year. Thanks

Hi all. We are opening a new preschool room which unfortunately does not have direct access to an outside area. A patio can be accessed through an adjoining room (2-3's) but it will mean that the children will not be able to free flow onto the patio. The room will only be staffed by two members of staff (max 14 children) so it would be difficult to have a member of staff out on the patio and one in the room. We are looking into making direct access to the outside, but its going to be pricey (needs a door and risen decking) and I'm worried this will be far far in the future. Any advice or suggestions would be greatfully received . Oh by the way we are a day nursery.
