Gun Play Amongst Boys 1 2

Hello all, Just wondered what people's thoughts were on gun play in nursery... I do not allow my boys to play guns or to make them out of lego or anything else they get their hands on. My son has come home from nursery today and told us that he has been playing "power gunnies" outside with the lego and went into great detail about how they played it and what the guns did "They squash them. And they can't get up. And they're dead" I'm not sure i want my 3 year old playing games that involve killing people and i intend to take it up with his nursery staff.... What do others think? Thanks, Tink! x

Does anyone have a specific sheet they use to send to other providers. The best I can think of is The All About Me sheet on the EYFS disc (planning for 3/4 year olds) I haven't had much luck in the past when trying to form links with other settings. I only have one child that attends another setting.I have a few children that attend childminders but the childminders are very anti and down about the EYFS so its difficult to work with them.

Hi All, I'm well and truly fed up i work in a pre school and also do a few hours in the schools EY unit im studying for my FDEY and have only been in the school since September, to get a few more hours in, but i've been told by another person that the class teacher has said im far to soft with the children! This as all come about because an 4yr old was very upset and distressed at having to wear a costume and sit on the stage for our nativity, the class teacher bellowed at hm and this made matters worse, I tried to go for a comprimise and for him only to wear the tunic and not the hat, has this is what was causing the issue! I thought i'd dealt with it ok and ever…

Hi All I am about to start working for an authority in London that uses"Pathway to Quality", as a quality assurance tool. Does anyone have first hand experience of working with this documentation. I have done a search and found some basic information, but I find it's always helpful to speak to real people. Thanks to anyone that can spare some time to reply. Wishing everyone a Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

Crowded Cloakroom
by Guest- 3 replies

Hi We have just started to get the questionnaires back from our first parent feedback request, and not suprisingly (as a recent parent and childminder who has collected from the preschool) the cloakroom is under fire. It is very small, and once the doors open, all the children and parents come in, trying to get to pegs, the children come into the main part of the terrapin while the parents attempt to get back out while other parents and children are trying to get in. Most change their children's shoes outdoors which makes it a bit easier, but that in itself isn't ideal. Now I have just introduced the fact that when it is chucking it down with rain, parents can be…

Babyroom Layout
by Guest- 4 replies

Hi I am collecting ideas for changing the babyroom on my placement. I wanted to ask those who work in a babyroom what sort of layout you have. Do you have 'areas/zones'. What sort of features would you say work really well eg.. fabric hanging from the ceiling to soften the look, chiffon curtains on a low level pole infront of a mirror. I need ideas that can be achieved without spending a lot of money (as awlways!). Thank you

Hi - need some of your excellent advice. We have had a child start at our setting in September who has, should we say, VERY challenging behaviour towards the other children and also to the staff, not a day has gone by when there has been at least a couple of children going home with injuries inflicted by this child. We are talking to parents, keeping incident logs etc (which are huge) trying to praise the positive etc The advice I need is that we are getting a lot of parents now complaining to us reference this child, they have also started to take their concerns to the committee. We are worried that it won't be long before someone makes a formal complaint. …
