Creating An Outdoor Shelter
by Guest- 4 replies

Sorry, me again! I've got some forms to fill out to apply for a capital grant to develop the outdoor area. The idea we've had is to get a sheltered area, probably one of those sail structures. I had a couple of questions on this. Firstly, can anyone recommend a good company for this to get quotes from, I'm not getting much joy when I google it. Also, the hall we use is a listed building, does anyone know anything about planning regs? Do you think a sail would be classed as a temporary structure? Maybe then we might get around the listing. Apparently anything that needs planning consent is unlikely to get a grant because of the timescales. I'll speak to the …

Wellies
by Guest- 8 replies

We have bought some all weather clothing for the children and have asked parents many times to bring in spare wellies. However, only a couple have so we have come to the conclusion that we need to provide them ourselves. We've got some money thanks to a fab group of older lads doing a sponsored run for us and will use some of this to buy the wellies (rather than faffing about trying to beg and borrow). So before we go ahead I was just wondering what we would do about them staying 'fresh'. If you provide wellies do you allocate them to a particular child or is it a free for all based on size? What do you do about avoiding the spread of any nasties? I'm thinking…

Website - What's On Yours?
by Guest- 7 replies

I've just been using a free site called weebly.com (very good) to create a website for our setting. So far my pages are: home, staff, timetable, newsletters, policies, EYFS, ofsted, links and contact. Can anyone think of anything else that I've missed? Also, what do you do about uploading things like staff names to your website? I'm obviously going to ask them, but I do wonder about this. I'm not even going there with photos of the children, so that's not a worry. (I can always photograph some of their paintings for added colour!) The other issue is that our contact number is my leader's mobile phone, and again I'm not sure that should go online. Plus which …

Flexible Hours
by Guest- 4 replies

Hi I'm trying to find out more info about the flexi 15 hours (as well as trying to work out how to use this forum as this is my first post!) I understand that being flexible could be as simple as saying children can be dropped off between 8 and 9 o'clock. My only issue then is if parents choose 8-1 (as we have a lunch club) over 3 days - how do we ensure that they have equal access to the EYFS which we currently plan over 5 days? Obviously every area is covered during CIL play but we do have use of the school hall one day a week for focused physical activity such as throwing and catching. Can we say that all areas are covered every day in CIL play but if they don't co…

Mobile/portable Sink Units
by Guest- 1 reply

Hi all Can anyone give any reviews of any type of these units. Supervisor looking at getting one but want to know what it is like to maintain etc. We have sometimes 40 children in per session so wouldnt want to have to change the water after only 10 washes! We are a walk away from the loos, unable to have sinks plumbed in and so at the moment use bowl of water for painty hands and babywipes for snack time hence why we are looking at these. She has asked me to come on and get your views. Thanks

Are You In A Union?

Hi all Last wek I was approached by deputy as a parnt had querid the fact that her on had gone home and tod her that I had told him off. Deputy had been asked to look into this! It turned out that the child in question was one that I also attended my old setting (he still attends my old and new setting!). Anyway on the day in question I was not even there. Further investigation found out it was the supervisor that had intervened with him over a behavioural issue. At first i felt under scrutiny for my practice and it then got me thinking. Hubby is a tacher and said that he has come across many issues of children saying this and that to parnts and hence he rcommended i sho…

Exceeding Your Numbers
by Guest- 4 replies

I think this has probably been raised before....but I apologise for not being able to find it.....can you exceed your registered number of children for Chirstmas parties? We can only have 6, 2 years at one session but in order to cater for everyone at the party...I will plan to do 2 parties but still make the numbers as 9, 2 year olds on each session....I obviously will use extra staff but we will breach our registration? Thank you

Hi guys, i really need some help here....Our EYFS have 3 reception classes and 2 nursery sessions. In past years Nursery and reception have done a joint Nativity but we have just been told that due to Health and Safety (Ahhhhhhh!!!!) we have a limit on the number of 'bodies' in the hall. This means we have to rethink the performances and it looks like I might have to do the nativity just with Nursery and reception will have their own. I've only benn at the school since september and in my last NQT term so feeling a little pressured to say the least! Has anyone got any ideas about what I could do or how we could manage to work around the numbers problem. I could do withou…
