Hi I'm looking for information how many intakes you do each year as a Maintained Nursery? We've always done September/January/April after they turn 3,but it has been suggested we go to one entry in September. I can see the positives ( not starting again 3 times a year) and negatives ( everyone new at once!!) of this - but if we aren't full in September, I feel it would benefit us to have another intake in January, even if we drop the April one. What does everyone else do? Iy would help to now if this is your school's choice or the LA!

Does anybody know where to get the plastic storage bins that are shown on the Anna Ephgrave you tube videos? They are like salt/ grit bins but seem quite pricey on the sites I looked at. Could really do with a few of these or something similar, but that will withstand weather and children!!

Hi i'm looking for any resources and ideas about stranger awareness. A little boy I work with is having trouble being overly friendly to people he does not know. He regularly goes up to other parents in the setting saying 'Hi mum/dad' and sometimes try to cuddle them and even on occasions has tried to leave with them. Several of these parents have expressed their concern about this as well and are not sure themselves how to act with him. I have mentioned to his parents on several occasions about what has happened and they don't seem overly concerned and say they will talk to him about it again. Obviously our main concern is that he may one day go up to a strang…

The Government has done a U-turn on the GCSE requirements for level 3 EYE. Just thought i would mention it in case anyone has experienced problems with this. They published the Early Years Workforce Strategy Yesterday (easily found if googled, I'm useless at adding links) Apprentices etc can now do functional skills instead and be classed as Level 3 in the ratios. This comes into force from 3rd April this year.

Hello all, I am writing to ask for some advice, I have been in early years for around 10 years it all began when I completed my BA Hons in early childhood studies, I then had the opportunity to complete my EYPS. In order to do this I got a job in a private day nursery, over time I worked up from a nursery practitioner to the settings early years professional overseeing the EYFS and finally the deputy manager. I felt after a few years I wanted to get back into the rooms working with children and was offered an opportunity to go to a special needs school to be their early years teacher due to holding the EYPS. I have been doing this for the last two months and straight…

I have a group of boys who are using the superhero dressing up clothes, but who are then just running around and play fighting. What can I provide to extend this interest and make it productive and non aggressive? I thought about making a superhero headquarters role play area but fear that the play will still be too boisterous and aggressive. Any ideas of what I can do and provide would be really appreciated.
