Open Doors

We are in a new building (opened Sept 08). We have two rooms (risings 4s in one and risings 3s in the other) and they have free flow by using the outdoor area. HOWEVER, this means leaving the doors open and that means all the heat escaping, so it is getting cold in the room and a lot of electricity is being wasted trying to heat the rooms. It's been suggested that we instal some 'PVC flaps like the kind you get in garden centres'. Has anyone else done this? Does it bother the children having to go through them? Does it work? Does anything else work?! And what are they actually called? I did a google and it came up with cat flaps (tempting, but ...)! Is the…

Does any one have (I'm sure someone posted something a while ago but I can't find it !) a letter that they send out to contact other settings about a child that attends both ? We have a few children that attend different nurseries so, we thought we would make the initial step and contact them as no- one has attempted to contact us. Just following up on some pointers that where given to us by ofsted ! Thank you ! Motherclangerx

Resources For Tweenies Room
by Guest- 1 reply

We have recently changed around our rooms to encompass different age groups. Our Tweenies room now has children aged from 16 months to 2.5 years. I am concerned that we are not providing the correct resources for the younger children and would be grateful for any suggestions as to what resources you would have in the room for this age group.

Yearly Budget
by Guest- 6 replies

Hello Everyone! Right well, I am the nursery teacher at a nursery which is part of a school (so not a private one). I was told at the beginning of the year that I had a £300 budget for the year- which is exactly the same as every other class in the school. This seems completely unfair- not only because of the sheer amount of resources it takes to keep a nursery up and running, but also due to the fact that we have 56 children over 2 daily sessions, and all the other classes only have 30. So basically, after buying some new aprons, paint, paper, glue, tape, a few bits for Christmas and a tuff tray- the £300 is all but gone. I have explained this to the head- who …

by Guest- 4 replies

This I am sure to all of you experts on here is a really silly question - but it has been a topic of debate at our setting this week, becuase of conflicting definintions from LEAS. Here are the two definitions: A planned time to observe 'the' child, at any activity they may go to....... or A specifc activity to assess the childs ability at the chosen activity... What do you think???? Thanks
