Well, i had my first ever Ofsted this week. It was great! Some fo you may be slightly confused, like many i was dreading it! I am in my second year of being leader in charge at my setting, and had been told throughout last year 'your due' 'your overdue' etc etc etc........... then they came! well a 'she' came, who was one of the most friendly and down to earth people i have met. The lady was with us for 2 days, day one dedicated to paperwork, day two you would not have known she was in the room! She stayed for coffee and cake at the end of the first morning! I am just so pleased that she made it as easy and unintrusive as she could, i was able to talk, talk, talk a…

I was always under the impression that we as a charity playgroup could fundraise outside of our setting. I've been advised however, that due to the Licencing act 2005, we now have to apply for a lottery licence, which varies in cost according to councils but is around £40.00 per year. This is because the tickets children take home might be sold to people who arent members of the group, i.e. parents work collegues. £40.00 is the amount we might make on a raffle! Anyone else shed any light?

hi i was wondering if anyone can help i really need it!!! i have recently been given a role which involves me supporting all the staff in ensuring that the EYFS and all its aspects are met, i have the job of bringing the baby room up to speed as it has fallen below standard but have only worked with the pre-school age group for the last 5 yrs' i am finding it difficult to plan a continuous provision for this age, so i have implemented a planning sheet that covers the six areas of learning rather that 'zoned areas' like mark making etc Is this right ? what do you do ? i will be VERY gratful for any suggestions and advise Thankyou

Spaghetti

Not sure which 'heading' to put this under! I have seen a lovely activity where children are cutting pink spaghetti in a big container. Would you cook the spaghetti at nursery or do it first at home? How long can you keep using the same spaghetti for from an H+ S point of view? Really want to try it!

Hi We have a child in our setting who insists in wearing Ugg Boots to Pre-School, on Friday Mum asked me to guard the boots with my life!! Does anyone else have this in their setting? And am I right in assuming that this really isn't my responsibilitie! I do state on every monthly newletter that children should attend in sensible clothing/footwear. Just want to make sure I can't get sued for a pair of Ugg Boots!! Thanks Kristina

Hi all, Just been round to the pre-school (not working - just walking past!! honest!!) to see our very long awaited and very lovely new wooden canopy which was been erected over half term. It is lovely, lovely lovely!! And the best thing is that it has guttering and a drain pipe and my plan has always been to install a water butt so that the children can have free access to the water supply to water the plants in the garden and to enhance their play, etc. directly from outside.. I was so excited when I saw it but now I'm having a mini panic about whether the children should be 'playing' with old rain water. I'm sure their will be some good comments or …

Hi all Hope this isn't too much of a 'yawn topic'.......... Having had my mind focussed by my recent SIP visit - she told me I need to have 'addresses of other providers/carers on file' - I was then reminded that I really need to do something about sharing info. with other settings/childminders......... I realise, of course, that we have discussed this before..........just wondered if anyone was having any luck! Sunnyday
