Am i the only one who feels this. Save our sessional pre schools. We are a sessional pre school, who are very busy. Parents choose us because because they dont need flexability and they want their child to go to a sessional pre school. So why do the l a tell me i have to open between 9-3! The costs of this will kill the buisness. The nursery down the road offers these hours, for he parents who need this type of care.

Risky Play

Hi Just wanted to share our success with risky play to give hope to everyone out there if you are afraid to let children take risk. With such a risk averse society it`s hard to let children take risks such as climbing trees because, as practitioners, if somethiing goes wrong the responsability is ultimitely ours. However we have a small private woodland literally a few steps outside our front door. We access this regularly and as a result the children are apt at tree climbing. Recently we have had a very succesful bonfire. Have a look for yourselfs here http://footstepspreschool.co.uk/ at our website. Sally

Transitions

Hi all, I am posting to see if anybody has any ideas about how I could manage my transitions in my nursery class better. I'm an nqt so this is my first year trying to do this. I'm having trouble with the transition from CIL to tidying up to sitting on the carpet. When it's tidy up time I have some chn who go straight to sit on the carpet, some who carry on with what they are doing, some who just wonder round the classroom telling the other children it is tidy up time and some who tidy up and then come sit on the carpet. With a class of 40 I find it difficult trying to get the chn to tidy up and then sit on the carpet while there are some chn messing about on the …

Parent Workshops

Hi. My colleague and I have spent this afternoon planning a series of parent workshops, beginning with one on playdough and then two on markmaking. We are going to call the sessions 'playful playdough' and then 'magic markmaking' or something similar to make it seem a bit more attractive..... My problem now is that my brain is fried and I can't think of what to put in the flyer...... I don't want to call them 'workshops' as that sounds too dry, boring and not very appealing to parents. I want them to come and have fun whilst inspiring them to try out new things at home.... What could we call them?

Baby Floor Mats

A friend who owns a nursery is looking for mats which can go onto the ground outside for the babies to crawl around on and the ones she is looking at cost £300 each. My nursery just put blankets out, or let them explore the floor with nothing, but their nursery has been told they must cover the ground with mats that are safe and easy to crawl on. Does anyone know of less expensive alternatives?

A colleague of mine who is working with a group of Toddlers is arranging a 'Foot Day' and is collecting together a selection of ideas and activities ... I though I would post on here as there is always lots of ideas generated!! So far she is thinking of toe nail painting/foot scrubs/foot painting/passing a balloon with only their feet/bringing in various types of shoes/types of shoes worn in different professions/ sock puppets.......any other ideas would be really appreciated!
