Does anybody complete a form for 'Settling in period' for new children starting at pre school (first half term)? If you do what sort of things does it ask? Thanks Cheryl.

Sorry I have searched but to no avail......taking records home to complete..what is the general consensus....in other settings I have worked we have all thought it is a no no but realised that sometimes there is no alternative in getting the paperwork done - I am talking about individual child development records...anyway I thought I would just check previous discussions on this and can't find them....anyone care to remind me of their views.....my new team will not entertain there is another way to do this - my instinct is to make time ...but they (and me a bit) are very negative and sceptical? Your views would be appreciated as always.....

Lunch Club - Getting Kids To Attend
by Guest- 8 replies

At the moment we run an 'optional' lunch club, charged at about the same hourly rate as the sessions. The normal session runs 9.30-12.00 then lunch club 12.00-1.00 (we only open mornings, voluntary run setting in a village hall). The uptake for the lunch club is quite poor. I want (need!) to use it for my own daughter 5 days a week, but unless there are 3 or more children it just doesn't happen. This means it tends to go ahead later in the year but only on certain days when the demand is there. I had the idea that we need to make it more of an appealing option for parents. At the moment it is billed as a 'social' time with a bit of play/story after eating, but…

Hello all, I would like a welcome poster with lots of languages- you know the ones. But I would like one with hello/welcome in Thai on it and I can't find one anywhere. I'd rather not make my own. I have looked on festival shop but can't find suitable one. Any ideas? ppp

A Few Million Issues,

Hello, well i have not been on here for ages and when i come i come back with a bundle of questions. recently we have merged our children aged 2 - school age together, we have two rooms that had a connecting middle door, we removed this door so that now we have one large room with direct access to the garden. we now have a 'messy' room where sand, water, play dough, paint etc is out all the time (we also eat in here), we then have a 'cosy' room with book corner, computer, home corner, carpet play. from this room is the door to the garden so basically all children can move freely between the rooms. we obviously staff this corerctly in accordance to ratio's so tha…

Help....this is going to be complicated to explain and I don't know why I am posting really but this may be of use for me.....bear with me...I am about to start as Floor manager at a setting..my job description involves planning and structuring the observation, planning evaluation cycle and guiding staff through a system that works (they didn't have one before). Ok so the setting has a Nursery Manager who is now devotin her time to more administrative aspects - they have got me as she could never quite get to terms with the EYFS and the obseravtion and all that is involved with that...plus no existing members of staff wanted to take on this role.......obviously I will e…

Monitoring The Outdoor Area
by Guest- 6 replies

Hi all, had a lovely summer but I am already getting agitated about organising the coming year. I am going into Nursery in a new school. I haven't had Nursery for a while but had reception last year. I am trying to fathom out how to manage free flow from indoors to outdoors so that I know which children are where during the session. Can anyone please give me some of their ideas about how to approach this? I was thinking of using a similar system to self registration and getting children to velcro their names up onto a picture that has limited spaces (about half the class) but not sure if this will be too much for Nursery children to cope with straight away. Any ideas wou…
