Behaviour Advise Needed

I have a child who is 18 months old in my wobbler room. The problem is that she has started to scratch at other childrens faces causing some pretty nasty marks, and obviously upsetting them. It started a few weeks ago but in the last 2 days I have had to write out 6 accident forms! It isn't isolated to the children in my room, but also some of the older children outside. We are certain that these 'attacks' (for want of a better word) are unprovoked. Another child may be in her way for instance. I have spoken to dad about the situation and all he could think of was her older brother who is in our preschool, sometimes teases her and she will lash out at him in this sam…

Hi, I am going to be teaching nursey next sept (52 children) and was wondering what the children should do when they first arrive. Currently they come into the room and choose where they want to play staight away but then a bell is rang 15 minutes later to sit them down so the register can be completed. I was thinking of trying to get the children to sit down in their key worker groups as soon as they arrive and had said bye to their parents. Doing it this way would mean the register is taken safely (very big unit and hard to keep track of children arriving at the moment). After the register had been taken could also talk to children about the activities on offer before t…

If so how do you do it any tips? I have delegated this out to a member of my staff but i think she would like a few suggestions! thanking you

Quick Question...

A quick question everyone.....I am not Montessori trained but I am working with someone who is and she has been showing me some of the resources that promote letter formation and early writing. (I know I could goggle or read up but I though I would ask you peeps first) ..I was wondering if anyone else uses these, I am unsure of the actual name of the resource but basically they are like stencils but they must be used in a specific way so as to teach children to start at a point and learn the 'flow' of writing, letter formation.....also there is another resource that is a wooden box of colour slides and this piece of equipment must be handled in a certain way and adult di…

As a parent I was shocked by this story. I would hate to be told that my way was wrong and be over ruled in this way. The poor nursery they were obviously trying to work with the parents. I think its quiet invasive of Ofsted, when they dont know the child, parent or setting. Nursery World aritcle

First Impressions?

I have been to my new setting today to help clear up, get a feel of things (no children present) and get to know staff a bit better - having only met them once before. Well...the setting is lovely and what they do is lovely but there is a feeling of unease (I know  already!) as I believe that some staff have had hours cut to accommodate my arrival..the point of me being recruited is to bring together the planning-observation-assessment-evaluation cycle that is not working at present and none of the current staff (an established team some working for over 10 years together, 6 staff in total) wanted to take this on...consequently I feel a little pressure in…
