Help To Save Nursery !
by Guest- 8 replies

Hello I work in a day nursery owned by a university, and would like your help if possible please..... I've just had a 'bomb shell' of a meeting with my line manager who informs me that recent restructuring has meant that the nursery may close. However, a colleague and myself have been asked to 'put forward reasons why we think we add value to the university' and 'how do we support core business' ! She seemed to like my empassioned outburst when she mentioned the nursery might close and said to write it down - it includes the obvious fact that as an educational establishment I felt they should be pleased that we are doing our best to make learning fun and hope…

Nursery Staffing Levels
by Guest- 11 replies

Hi everyone, I have posted this query before but still haven't got to the bottom of it and it's driving me mad!! According to the EYFS documentation I understand school nurseries should have a teacher and one member of staff with a level 3 or equivalent qualification. Additional staff needed for ratios can have a level 2. In my school I am the level 3 (Nursery nurse) and work with the teacher and a TA2. We have 39 places each session. However I am taken out of nursery to cover PPA in reception one afternoon per week. I also cover in reception when they have meetings or training. This means the teacher and a level 2 are in nursery, occasionally with one or two studen…

Hi Everyone Hope everyone's been enjoying some nice weather. It is lovely to be able to be outside for the whole session, but we are having trouble managing sun hats. Most do bring them in now but most can't keep them on their heads. What do others do? Staff have suggested that we have playgroup hats that anyone can wear. What do you think?

I currently work in the same nursery that my son attends, but would like to send him to a preschool for a few sessions a week as well so that he can meet children that he will go to school with in september 2010. One of the preschools that i contacted reccommended that I chose one setting and stuck with it. As a preschool room leader myself I have never considered it before as a negitive thing, as I have children in my room who go to two setting and are fine...anyway I'm looking for some opinions please

Hi all, I know I have seen this before, and used a provider when I ran a pre-school, but my setting would like to offer 'mini' versions of staff t-shirts for Pre-school Room. Can anyone point me towards someone who will provide these - I have been googling all evening and got a big fat zero - (is my brain melting in this heat??). I SERIOUSLY need to get back to OU work, so please forgive me asking!! Sue xx

Language Delay And Dummies/soothers
by Guest- 26 replies

I would be interested to know if anyone else thinks there is a very strong link between the overuse of dummies and children's language delays. In my setting we have a large number of children with language acquisition delays with a high proportion of them having dummies or bottles outside the setting - I work in a Pre-School with the age range 2 - 5 years. My third child had a dummy, as the other two were thumbsuckers and getting them to stop was a nightmare, one of them still struggles at the age of 14! We only allowed the dummy at sleep times and if he was poorly, we stopped using it when he reached 18 months and it only took two nights for him to forget about …

I have been working on some techniques with a couple of children, without much success this has been discussed with the parents beforehand. Well yesterday whilst dealing with these children I was bitten and pinched by 1 child and my chair person was kicked and punched by he other. with this the child who bit me ran off sat in the book area a quietly looked at a book. I was so taken back by this behaviour that I picked up the phone and called the health visitor and told her what had happened and she replied " exclude them" I obviously did not do this as its not in our policies. I did however talk to both the parents together about their children and told them that it is …
