Replacing Snack Time With Snack Bar?
by Guest- 1 follower

We've had it suggested to us by our EYA that we replace the formal snack time where all children have a snack together, with a kind of snack bar that they can access as and when they want. The reason this has been suggested is to help us maximise time for the children to play, now that we have free flow in and out. At the moment, a big chunk of time gets lost in the middle of the session while everyone is going to the toilet, washing hands and having snacks. Does anyone do this kind of self selecting time to have a snack? And what are the practicalities of it? Do the staff have to 'run' it? Do the children do this? Or do they just help themselves!?

Hi everybody - I'm new to this but have been browsing the forums for a while. I hope I have posted in the right place!?!? I work in a nursery which has a children's centre for under threes and then a pre-school room in the school building for our funded and over three year olds. We currently have 21 children a session but are expanding in September to 40 a session (VVVVVery WWWWorried). I just wondered if anyone else has this amount of children and how you manage the sessions. We currently have register and story time altogether but I am thinking this would be done in key person groups ? Any suggestions or ideas welcome please!! Thanks

Childrens Absences

Hi Just wondered if any of you monitor them and how you do this? Do you get parents to write down why their chid has been absent ie use any particular forms? If a child is absent and you do not know why do you chase it up? Would just like to know what others are doing. We have a child who has attended sporadically for the last month or so (he is funded). Supervisor is friend of the mum (makes it difficult) and says mum just brings him when convenient or when she can be bothered!! Supervisor now thinks that she has to make things more official and get it in writing from mumt exactly why the child is not coming etc etc. This also raised a point in that we are aware …

Hi all. Recently 3 staff from our school (reception teacher, nursery teacher and me) attended the "are you self evaluating in the early years foundation stage" course. From this, and our "homework" we realised that although we have strong links with parents what we currently need to address is parents coming into nursery or reception to "help". The area we serve is a socially deprived area and as a (very) general rule we have some cohorts of parents who are very supportive and others............ not all! Anyway I sent out a questionnaire. Asked parents if they would like to come in to nursery /reception, what would they like to do/ etc It seems that y…

Stay And Play Sessions
by Guest- 3 replies

Hi im moving to nursery in september and was thinking of setting up 'stay and play' sessions, where parents would have the opportunity to stay and play with their child for approx half an hour. Im not sure how often we would do it any suggestions? I also thought it may be nice to run stay and read sessions and stay and sing, to try to encourage parents to read and sing with their children and pick up ideas from school. This would be voluntary, parents would not be expected to stay. Does anyone run anything similar who could share their experiences on how it worked?? Thanks xx

I need to get this off my chest, and have talked about it with colleagues involved but can still not quite come to terms with what has happened. So will briefly outline what went on and ask if you feel the outcome was disproportionate I work in a nursery. Maintained morning sessions, private afternoon sessions. 4 year old male child was found to have bruising on one side of his neck. When staff asked how he had done that (in case it happened when he was with us!!) he said "Daddy did it in bed" Staff member told me (manager) I asked her to write down exactly how the conversation had come about, what was said, and to fill out the marks on a body map …

Anyone else had the DHL van turn up yet? Twice it's turned up and as far as I was aware, the date for collection is 26th June. Also, would like to know how you pack your vouchers? Envelopes with no. of vouchers inside? In batches of 100's with elastic bands? ppp
