Right That Is It I've Had Enough...

Ok! That's it. I'm sick to the back teeth of looking at planning: styles, ideas, methods, what is right, what is wrong, what works, what doesn't, what is acceptable, what isn't, too much planning, too little planning, to many wrong spellings planning, ofsted don't like it planning, ofsted do like it planning, doesn't work in our setting planning, works for us planning... actually let's face it just planning. Is there enough adult led, too much adult led, where are the focus activities, what should I focus on yadda yadda yadda. And so now, because I'm sick of it, I'm afraid you are going to have to suffer my rant. Planning is child centered... I agree, but ho…

English As A Second Language

We have a Thai boy in our pre-school who has been with us since last September. He speaks very little English, usually only one word answers and speaks very quietly. Most of the time he likes to be with an adult. He likes you to read to him, is very good at puzzles and very competent using the computer. At home his parents only speak to him in Thai, though they do know English. His older brother, who came to our setting and could speak English by the time he left us, appears to be the only one to speak English with him at home. When I spoke to his mother about our concerns, she said that she wanted him to retain his ability to speak Thai and wasn't particularly concerned …

Hi all, My setting is a bit stuck. We can no longer obtain forms for CRB checks either from the CRB themsleves or Ofsted. We are told that our setting is too small and need to find an independent body to do it on our behalf. We have contacted our local 'childcare advisers' and no one knows the answer! We have a new committee members to check and new staff and we can't! I'm appauled! If there is anyone else who has had this problem, would be great to know what you did about it. ppp

I realise this is a bit sad , but I was checking out the Ofsted website looking at recent reports any way I came across some complaints and one of them got me thinking (which is a bad think coz the cogs are a bit rusty!!!) one of them picked up on inaffective behaviour management (this was not the original complaint, but something they saw on their visit) now my problem is that I have a child who is fine all the time he can do what he likes and as soon as he is asked to do anything or to stop doing something, like throwing, then he laughs in your face, spits, blows raspberries etc we have tried everything that we have been trained to do and more. My concern if ofsted came…

We do free flow and encourage children outside as much as poss but wondered if we still have to allow children the choice of outside and in or just outside? We have a great outside area that is very popular but sometimes feel that staff tell the children it is time to go out rather than it being the childs choice. Would love to hear some views.

Problem In Behaviour

Hi all asking advice again We have a boy at pre-school just turned 3 who we have been having problems with since he arrived. Thing is he is the supervisors own son! Im his keyperson as he seems to have bonded with myself more than the others (or should i say staff are frightened of him! I deal with him!). Supevisor is fully aware of his behaviour problems.....example today he was sat next to another, they were fighting over a toy and he bit the other child on the face. left a bruise after first aid treatment and we had to complete incident form. This is the most serious thing he has done (I hasten to add!). Most of the time its aggression, hiting out. We praise his…
