Afternoon Children In Nursery

We are a setting in Dudley with 45 children per session in a morning and an afternoon. we find that our routine of the day that includes a 15 minute key worker session, works well for morning children who can choose their own play during the child-iniaited play. the morning children can explore the environment and they get a lot from play with each other. on an afternoon it is completely different, we feel the child iniaited play does not benefit the children. the children in an afternoon are more demanding and we would like change the routine to their needs. i have been teaching for 5 years and this has been my first year working in the foundation stage. my collegu…

Problem In Behaviour

Hi all asking advice again We have a boy at pre-school just turned 3 who we have been having problems with since he arrived. Thing is he is the supervisors own son! Im his keyperson as he seems to have bonded with myself more than the others (or should i say staff are frightened of him! I deal with him!). Supevisor is fully aware of his behaviour problems.....example today he was sat next to another, they were fighting over a toy and he bit the other child on the face. left a bruise after first aid treatment and we had to complete incident form. This is the most serious thing he has done (I hasten to add!). Most of the time its aggression, hiting out. We praise his…

Ok, what's it called, when you look at a group of objects and just know that there's 6 or 9 or whatever without having to count them?

And how are you implementing the flexible hours? I am with a setting in the PVI sector and have offered first dibs to those who registered before september 08, then the 2nd cohort what was left (no morning slots remaining) and am wondering how LEA settings do it. Do you go by catchment? Also, we're offering a combination of slots and only the first few will be able to have fexible hours, the rest will have to fit around them. How does this work for LEA nurseries? I've had 1 say yes please to morning slot, then change their mind 2 weeks later (in favour of LA place) then another who specifically wanted a morning place, but hasn't got one so has declined completely. I'm…

Wondering if anyone has a wonderful system to save me re inventing the wheel. We are loving Letters and Sounds phase 1 and feel we have things up and running in a successful way. However, for all we do a lot of informal assessment, I really would like a simple record keeping system about progress rather than having something monumental "given" to me. (If I get in first I could save being given one of those things that are written by people who think all we do all day is L&S) Anyone got anything marvellous? I have 39 children so concise is the word?? Thanks!!!
