Hi everyone, I am a foundation leader in a school and we also have a Pre-school. I am going to start introducing home visits for the children about to join pre-school. Does anyone have any advice to offer, or experiences to share? I am looking for practical advice, such as how do you arrange times and dates with parents and what do you cover when you are there and how long do they last? But also advice about how to approach them, any issues or problems that we may encounter. Thank you for any words of wisdom!

Advice Please?
by Guest- 5 replies

Hello, just wondered if anyone had any advice. I have a child in my nursery class who is steadily becoming more disruptive as the year progresses. She demands attention constantly during carpet time....she talks over people all the time and finds it difficult to sit in one place...she moves to different spaces 3 or 4 times during a 20 minute carpet time (I know this is a long time for some children) When she moves she practically sits on top of others and they are beginning to not want her near them. She will make excuses to go to the toilet and she will hide in the block area. When another adult sits with her she deliberately snorts into her hand so she can get a tissue.…

Hi there, Can I ask, how many of you hold open days for the septmber intake/prospective families? In september we changed to full day care (915 to 3pm) and are afull all day every day but have had one or two people asking for an open day/visit prior to September. The odd visit I can handle, although visiting parents want to chat and I sometimes find my day is spent not with my current children but with future families and to be honest, at this time of year, it's getting a bit much. For next year I'd like to hold an open day where people can come and see how the rooms are set up and have any questions answered. Can you tell me what has worked for your setting? I hav…

Advise Needed

Hi I have a young man working at the nursery who is excellent with the children, he is currently undertaking the NVQ2, he is bank staff but works mainly full time. I was told recently that staff who have not got the relevent qualifications can not be counted in the ratios, is this true??. If so it would be a real loss to the nursery. Thanks Sam

Have sat for hours trying to work something out but the brain is on strike!! (oh and its only wed lol) Gill

Hi, I am new to this so please be patient with me. We are in the process of re-furbishing our pre-school and have got to the point where we need to decide what furniture etc that we need. We have lots of catalogues at our disposal with lots of lovely ideas in them. But I was wondering if anybody knows of a web site maybe? that could help us in our design to get the right equipment needed and help us with the general layout of the pre-school. We are keen to have seperate areas for constuction, role-play etc. Any help/advise would be appreciated . Bev

Door Alarm - Please Help
by Guest- 3 replies

Hello, Our door alarm has stopped working so need to get a new one urgently!! But I have no idea where to get one from. The one we have is a small box which is attached to the top of the door. It has a pin in it then when it is pushed in the alarm sound is off (door is closed) and the pin moves out to sound the alarm (door is open). We are in a village hall where there is lots of comings and goings and I will have to use one of my assistants to stand at the door for the whole session until we get a new alarm. Hope this makes sense! ppp
