"provide opportunities for children to develop and use their home language in their play and learning" I keep seeing this on Ofsted reports. We tend to have one or two children each year with EAL and up till now it has been a new language each year Russian, followed by Korean, followed by polish. Has any body addressed this issue and if so what ideas did you come up with. thanks seebee

Hi I wonder if anyone could help me with where to go for epipen training? We have a child who has a severe nut allergy about to start at our setting. The GP, Health visitor, school nurse, portage and the early years and education department will NOT train staff!! The GP will only train the relatives. The only place we can get any training is the Consultant at the Hospital but they want £100 for doing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It used to be the Early Years department but they have said they dont do it anymore due to insurance issues!! A collegue phoned his GP friend to ask for advice and she said there is no way around it as she (the GP) had to pay for trai…

Our treasurer has suggested we move our banking online, as our local bank is wanting to start charging us for transactions. Can anyone tell me whether we are okay to do this, as apparently we would normally require 2 signatures? Personally I think it's a good idea! Many thanks.

HI we have a baby room which can take six, and has had six for a while, but due to dropping numbers on three days a week we now only have three children and therefore only need one staff (according to ratio's). i really do not like just having one member of staff in there with three children. i feel it is hard work and that it means nothing in the room is really getting done due to the routines of the children (feeding bottles, changing etc etc) and i know how much hard work this is if your on your own. i have looked in statatory guidance and can't see anything about lone workers, i really want some info that will argue the point that there should be two members o…

Hello, I am new to the forum and although i have replied to some posts i have never had a quiery of my own, until now! we are currently recruitming for staff and have specified for applicants to have at least a Level2 qualification, this we have done because we can afford to have a L2 as the rest of my staff are level 3 but also becuase we will be expecting them to act as a key person to a group of children, are their requirments that keypersons must be at Least level 2 qualified or is it Level 3? if a childminder applies are they able to be a keyperson with their previous training or do they have to top up with training!?? so many questions i know but would …
