Door Security

Hello Can I ask what door security measures are taken by those of you in rented church premises? Currently my pre school rents a church hall. Our security is fine, but the use of staff time to ensure security is an issue. Because the church is used regularly throughout the week (during the times when the Pre School meet) we cannot always ensure that the outer door of the building is locked, as so many users are accessing various rooms in the building. So to maintain safety, to our Pre School room we manually lock our room by means of a strange form of hook over clip at the top of door to doorframe. This has to be done by a second member of staff allowing the fir…

I have had such an interesting day today and thought I would share! Our LA had some surplus money which had to be spent before end of financial year so........... with just a couple of weeks notice they wrote to all pre-schools/nurseries and reception classes in our area to offer us the chance to spend a day in each others settings - with them paying for supply cover. We are situated in a very small village so really only feed one school so this was easy to 'set up'. In previous years the reception teacher has 'called in' for an hour or so - usually in June - just before the children go to her for 'taster sessions' - but this was the first time she had been able …

We are part of a Foundation Stage Unit within a primary school. Since September we have been offering 15 hours FFE across either mornings or afternoons i.e. 3 hours at a time. This has worked well and we have experienced few problems. Over the last few months however we have experienced a drop in numbers. No children have left our setting, but we just dont have the numbers. Due to this it has been suggested that we offer full days aswell as half days. Really worried about how this will affect the quality of provision. At the moment planning is usually progressive i.e. if doing a shape topic we may do circle on a monday, rectangle tues etc how will this work if children ar…

HI, we have a little boy in our setting he will be four in July (middle of), and is due to start school in september 09. this little boy has had a bad start in life, neglected and passed from care home to care home... he is now established with his adoptive parents and one of his biological siblings and has been there for the last 18 months. his home life now is very settled. in the first year or so of his life his emotional attatchments were broken several times and this shows now. he makes attatchments to key staff (mainly myself but i don't work in the room with him). however friendships are non existant.... he tries to play with the children but does not seem to …

Hi all, When we had our inspection a couple of weeks ago, the inspector showed us a sheet with boxes on it which cover a childs development, these could be used alongside the learning journeys as a basic at a glance look at where the child is at; she said they were on the EYFS disk but I've been looking for ages and can't find it. Does anyone know where on the disk it is? Sam

Hi every one, i am looking to starting a new display for reception i want it to be a cosy area but to focus on children's emotions . I thought of may be getting the children to help make a cushioned quilt to hang on the wall or at the window as we have so many of them. Has any one done a emotions display before ? I am really stuck for idea's at the moment but i would like to make it interactive awell may be using talking photo albums. regards Adele
