Hi I can't say too much other than we have a 2yr old who has suddenly and unexpectedly lost a parent in the most tragic circumstances. I have read on other posts about a story of Badger but I gather that this really tells the story of death being a 'release' from suffering. Any help, advice or stories for a 2yr old who has lost a perfectly fit, healthy young parent

Should I Go To The Party ?

Hi All - have a little question - a little boy from Asia has just started at pre-school - I have met his family during a home visit and he is beginning to settle into pre-school well - this week he gave me an invitation to his party which will be at his house. My first thoughts were, I will say thank you, but make up an excuse not to go, generally in little old England we are not invited to parties and maybe we all try not be become too familiar, however, I have been thinking about this a bit more, I feel really pleased that his family have asked me to come, as they see me important within their life - so should I go or not - other staff who have been asked feel we shou…

Kissing Children In Your Care 1 2

How do you feel about practitioners kissing the childrin in your care? I saw a colleauge kiss a child on the top of his head last week and I felt very uncomfortable by this but not really sure why exactly. I spoke to another colleague who said as far as she was concerned it was a no go area and she'd never do it. I spoke to my manager about it because I wanted to know where we stand on that kind of thing, and she said it was up to me and what I felt comfortable with. I don't understand how this can be true? Am I missing something here??? How do you feel about this issue? Lluna.

Coats For Staff?
by Guest- 6 replies

Hi all I'm the manager of a couple of vol/comm childcare setting and I've recently attended a range of training sessions with staff from children's centres. I've noticed that they all have waterproof coats and think it would be a good idea to provide something similar for my staff (but not 'children's centre blue'). I never thought to ask where they got them from, but as this site is the font of all knowledge does anyone here know - or can recommend a good supplier? Cheers RR

Hi all, I wondered if anyone could share their experiences about off site trips? We are planning a whole setting trip to the zoo in June. There will be roughly 60 children and we want a ratio of 2 children to 1 adult. We have 2 particularly challenging children though, would we be out of order to say the parent has to come with them? I don't want to discriminate but I really think it would be impossible to take the children without the parent. we are planning on having maybe 5 or 6 groups with 2 members of staff in each group. How do we go about keeping the children "safe" though? do all helpers have to be crb checked? with 2 staff members in each group we…
