Please can anyone recommend a supplier for all weather gear, either all-in-ones or salopettes and jackets. I'm looking into getting a set of about 10 of these for next term, and want a good price (naturally) I know lots of you have them, and I wonder where from and how much. Many thanks in anticipation

Per Inspection Result

Hi Last week we had a PER inspection (mini ofsted that the school pay for to make sure everything is up to standard) The outcome was good. The PER lady came into nursery and liked the environment and said it reflected children's work in a colourful environment. We are fortunante to be able to use the school hsll for PE. Therefore two family groups (26) children were in the hall changing shoes removing loose clothing and warming up by moving around the hall in various ways discussing heart beat and then dancing with scarves to make a rainbow. Cool down time and out all in about 25 mins with 4 adults. The other 26 children were in the nursery having music time. We trei…

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions to deter a 3.5yr old from asking people she doesn't know if she can go home with them? It is happening both inside our setting and also when out and about with mum. Have tried talking about stranger-danger but the response is a blank look! dottyp

I'm looking at the element on the SEF about 'Teaching children to stay safe' and i know we don't do a 'stranger danger' element. I'd like to know what other settings do about teaching 'Stranger danger?' Already we have a 'people who help us' theme every year when we talk about / dress up / role play police stations and the Police in general. I'm interested to know how other settings have moved their children away from "the police catch the bad people' notion that our children all have onto something more meaningful - or perhaps we don't need to?? I don't know I think what I'm looking for is an idea about how to cover "what to do if you don't feel safe" (at home,…

Organising Focus Activities
by Guest- 7 replies

am thinking about doing some research on organising focus activities within nursery settings and have been asking around some of my friends who go in as parent helpers at their children's settings as to how they do it. One friend has reported that at her son's setting the children are in classes and for the first hour, they will rotate doing a focus activity with the 3 key workers in the class so that by 10 a.m., everyone in the class will have done 3 focus activities. Free flow starts after that. I have not come across this way of organising focus activities before and just wondered what others thought about it? To me it seems a bit like doing your work and then being al…

Help! After just 1 week working in a nursery (covering a long term absence) I have come down with shingles. The books say that you can't catch shingles from chicken pox but one of the children is away with - guess what - chicken pox. Has anyone else had the same experience?

Home Corner

I have a home corner area in my room (children from 18m-2yrs) we used to have a reali nice display to create that home corner area, a chest of drawers, mirror etc to make it look "homely". In that area we have a cot, baby bath, push chair and dolls clothes, dolls, and acessories. The problem is the children are at that age where they just wanna pull things off the wall, so the display we had there is ruined, looks so tacky. But we have re done it several times but now we are stuck with ideas for what we could to there so that is does not keep getting ripped off by the children.
