Qualifications for early years

We've had a lady applyfor a job we advertised and she sounds perfect only issue is the qualification she has. She has a level 3 in supporting teaching and learning in schools. How do I go about checking whether this qualification is suitable for early years 0-4 or not. I'm thinking it doesn't sound like it would be but I don't want to dismiss her application without checking first.

The 'Potty training academy' have been making a few calls to nurseries to advertise their services (as setting your nursery up as a potty training academy - all for just under £400). Some members in Dorset LA have received cold calls from the company. I thought you might want a 'heads up' before you got that call so that you were ready with your point of view.

Hi, Can anyone recommend a company that does those professionally printed packs of cards from the children's art work for parents to buy? Can't remember who we used last time but they were really unreliable and late and made mistakes (wrong names on cards etc.) Thanks!

I'm thinking about snack before we go back for the Autumn term as I'm not happy with the way our rolling snack was implemented by some staff by the end of the year... We have 28 children in a session, 2 year olds to 4 year olds (though they're all 2 or 3 when we start back in Sept) with a mixture of old children and new children. We have a rolling snack that's prepared by a staff member in the kitchen to comply with food hygiene regs, then brought out to the playroom for the children to self serve (pour own drink from little jugs or water or milk, spread soft cheese on rice cake, etc) The table for children to eat at is near the kitchen and the bathroom so c…

Hi everyone, We unfortunately had an incident at pre-school last week where a child broke her arm.. I've done the necessary notification to OFSTED but they have now e:mailed asking for the child's full name and date of birth. Has anyone else had this? Somehow, I just feel funny about disclosing this personal information..... Any advice? Thank you!!

Room Layout and time table

Do you give your parents a copy of the nursery timetable and room layout? The time table is on our website, and we have been giving new parents a copy of it and the room layout in our starter pack, but we are going overboard on paper I think. Is there any regulation that says we have to give this to parents?

Hi As some of you know I had to make the decision to close my setting just over a week ago. I've been thinking about what to do next and the thing that is sticking in my mind is childminding. Now at the minute I live with my parents so apart from getting my own place what other things should I be mindful of? - how many children do you roughly have before/after school - do you have an assisstant? - how much do you charge? - what are your hours? - what meals do you provide? Thanks in advance x

I've just had enough of the workload and my employer taking advantage. Quite a few staff members have left which makes me feel even worse about leaving. I love the children, the job itself but the extra workload that I do in my own free time is starting make me resent my job. For example, last weekend I spent writing 9 reports unpaid because I have no time to do it in my key time. I stay behind 10 mins each night to help with cleaning duties. This doesn't include the amount of time I spend researching and making resources. I am just so fed up with it.

Not sure if this is the best section to post in but here goes. Does any one do their own PAT testing? If so, did you do any training or do you just use common sense/on line guidance?
