It always feels like a deperate struggle to get my nursery to change anything in a positive way. Getting thingsa past the managment can be a nightmare and even if you do the staff always are so negative, I really wonder why I bother!!! We had a meeting tonight about introducing Learning Journeys (very much like the southampton ones). All the staff were very negative and unwilling to learn. No one understands or even looks at the EYFS at the moment, and I feel that the learning journeys are a positive way forward... When I read about everyone elses nurseries it makes me feel even worse, as we are not even doing a quarter the things that others do and no one thin…

How To Increase Numbers?
by Guest- 9 replies

We are a Foundation Stage Unit in a Primary School. Over the past few years our numbers have been reducing, through no fault of our own i.e. people moving out of the area while houses are being renovated and not moving back etc We have been informed today that our 26 place nursery is being reduced to a 13 place nursery in September (13 AM 13 PM). Any ideas on how to attract more bums on seats please? We are looking into offering full days (at present we only offer 5 half days), planning an open day event, posters into local shop windows and encouraging school toddler group to visit us more. P.S. This is my first posting and the site comes strongly recommended...I …

I've a staff meeting next week and I'm hoping my wonderful girls will come up with some brilliant ideas! I'm contemplating sitting in a paddling pool full of red sauce, but will it turn me red I wonder.............makes a change to baked beans I guess!!! Come on share your funny ideas with us - please!!

Is it true that there is currently a 'big push' to get all schools to have their own nursery? Does anyone know or has anyone heard of it?

Risk Assesment For Pregnant Staff
by Guest- 8 replies

Does anyone have a copy of a risk assesment that they use within the nursery setting for a pregnant member of staff. I have one that I am not sure about and it would be really useful to look at someone elses. Have 5 staff that are expecting and 1 that is causing a few problems that in turn is causing friction amongst the other staff. At 2.5 months she said she couldnt change nappies or lift the babies and now at 4 months she said she can't pick up the bibs or flannels off the table. As you can imagine this is causing a lot of rifts and I need to address it and clarify the risks involved with her and restore peace and harmony to the room!! Many Thanks

All About Me Form

Hi folks hope you're enjoying the snow! I volunteered myself to update/recreate a suitable 'All about me' form for when a child starts at our setting as both the leader and myself felt our previous was out of touch and didn't really show parents what we truely valued so having done a little research asking leader what she suggests and via here and other examples on a range of websites I have come up with a rough draft and wondering if you lovelies could have a look at it and let me know what you think? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated We wanted to move away from 'I can do this, this and this' with parents ticking boxes to say they can hold a pencil etc and k…

Hi again, I got some great advice on my thread yesterday, so I have another question if you don't mind. Our pre-school runs 4 mornings a week in the Parish Hall, which means the staff have to put out and take down equipment each day. From my meeting with the leader yesterday, I gather that this takes up a substantial amount of time for them, as they are putting out something to cover each area of the continuous provision thingy, i.e. sand, water, paints, climbing frame, role play, play dough, kitchen, etc. etc. My question is, would it be okay if one week they only put out say 4 or 5 of the areas, then the next week they covered the others? That way they cou…
